Sheriff Kept
Busy By Calls
The Chattooga County
Sheriff's Office made 1,406
cases during the second calen
dar quarter of this year, accor
ding to a report issued by that
office.
Sheriff Gary McConnell
said his office made 526 of
those cases in April, 484 in
May and 396 in June.
More than 2,100 complaints
were answered during the se
cond quarter, including 724 in
April, 709 in May ang 706 in
June, reports said.
During that time, the
sheriff's office patrolled over
91,400 miles, McConnell said,
and worked over 23,200
manhours.
The office served 281 civil
papers during the three-month
period and 365 warrants, in
cluding 127 in April, 134 in
May and 104 in June.
A total of 83 accidents with
31 injuries was reported in
April, May and June, the
report said.
One kidnapping case was
made in June — tfie only one
for the quarter, while five cases
were made on charges of
violating the Georgia Controll
ed Substances Act, three of
them in June.
The sheriff's office made
] five cases for possessing beer
for resale and four cases for
‘ possessinfi whiskey for resale,
| most of them in June.
One child abuse charge was
filed in April and a child
| molestation case was filed in
| May.
Two robbery charges were י
filed during the three-month זְ
| period, both in April. One arm
ed robbery charge was record
ed, also in Aprifi
Three arson charges were
filed — one each month.
Nine forgery charges were
filed, five of them in June, and
34 worthless check charges
were recorded, 26 in May alone.
Ten aggravated assault
charges were filed, six of them
in May, the sheriff reported.
A total of 157 cases was
| made during the second
quarter on alcohol-related ן
charges, including 96 for driv-
ing under the influence of in-
toxicants, 26 against drunk
pedestrians and 35 against
public drunks.
Six burglary charges were
filed, five in April alone.
Speeding was the main of
fense insofar as traffic charges
were concerned. A total of 241
speeding charges was filed dur
| ing the quarter, including 89 in
| April, 88 in May and 64 in
June. Cases were made against
56 pe?le for driving with
revoked or suspended licenses
and 166 motorists were charg
ed for driving without in
surance. Forty faced charges
for driving without a license,
the sherifg s office reported.
One case was made against
a motorist for violating the
state’s child restraint law. The
case was filed in May.

America, Tyson said.
