VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL ENJOYED AT NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, SUMMERVILLE
Area Youngsters Participate; Theme For School Was *“Growing Up With Jesus’’
New Bethel VBS Has ADA Of 40
Vacation Bible School was
held at the New Bethel Baptist
Church on Congress Street Ju
ly 14-18 from 10 a.m. until
noon daily.
The Rev. O.J. Jordon is
pastor.
The school’s director was
Mrs. Burnetta V. Pender. The
theme for the week was,
“Growing Up With Jesus.”
Refreshments were served
daily with a hot dog lunch Fri
day. The average gaily atten
dance was 40, with a total at
tendance for the week was 205.
Certificates were presented on
Friday to the students with
each student receiving a star
for each day of attendgance on
the certificate.
Certificates of Appreciation
were presented to two of the
teachers. The week climaxed
with a Youth Day program at
New Bethel Baptist Church
Sunday morning with youth
beixfiin charge of the service.
e speaker was Ivan
Glynn Watkins and his topic
was, “Youth On the Move
With Christ.”
He is a native of Chattooga
County, a 1984 graduate of
Chattooga High School, a
junior majoring in recreational
therapy at Morris Brown Col
lege in Atlanta, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Isaiah Watkins Jr. and a
member of the New Bethel
Baptist Church, where he serv
ed on the Junior Usher Board.

Menlo Awaits
State Action
The City of Menlo is
awaiting word from the
Georgia Environmental
Facilities Authority as to
whether it may nppf’y for in
terim financing for its planned
sewerage program.
The city has already receiv
ed approval for a $390,000 loan
from the federal Farmers
Home Administration (FmHA)
and the FmHA has given
Menlo a $570,000 grant. Also,
the Appalachian Regional
Commission has awarded a
$150,000 grant to the city.
Total project cost 18
$1,100,000.

Blood Drive Meets Goal
The Chattooga County Hospital was the settinfg for a
Red Cross Bfiood Drive Friday. Forty units of blood
were collected, fallinfi:vithin the 34-50 unit goal set by
Red Cross officials. Registered Nurse Barbara Brown
