Post Office Drainage Improved
This was the scene last week as workmen corrected a
drainage problem in front of the Summerville Post Of
fice. Part of the system failed to meet government
specifications when it was installed earlier and work
crews were called back in to correct the problem,
spokesmen said. By the first of this week, the area had
been filled in and restored to normal. (Staff photo).

the highest honor given by the
bi-partisan Coalition for lgleace
Through Strength.
Darden, a member of the
House Armed Services Com
mittee, was honored by the
group in a Capitol Hill
ceremony attendeg by more
than 500 people from across
the nation. Many members of
Congress also attended.
The Coalition for Peace
Through Strength is a bi
. partisan alliance of 168
" organizations. It is the largest
pro-defense group in the na
tion, with a membership which
includes the American Securi
ty Council, the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the Reserve Of
ficers Association, the
American Legion Auxiliary
and the General Federation of
Women's Clubs.
“Congressman Darden not
only has an outstanding voting
record, but he has been in the
legislative forefront on many
defense and forei olicy
issues,” said John s}l Ifisher,
president of the American
Security Council. That
organization recently recogniz
ed Darden's 100 percent
positive voting record on
defense issues.
Fisher said Darden, “‘clear
ly understands the real and
present dangers to America’s
national security.”

following her graduation. Mrs.
Bice's accomplishment is

wishes to complete his high
school education. The classes
are given free of charge at
Chattooga High School and at
the Chattooga County Library.
Students may begin classes at
any grade level.

Church Remodeling
Work Continues
Pastor Joseph Blevins is
leading the remodeling of the
Seventh Da Adventist
Church, Bel{ah Avenue,
Summerville,
It is antic{f)ated that the
remodeling will be complete in
the near future and more room
will be available for larger
crowds. The church is %:adual
ly adding to its membership
and three people were baptized
in June and six more were add
ed l?' transfer of membership.
astor Blevins came to the
ChattooFa County area from
the Gulf States Conference
where he worked in the
publishing department for five
vears. Prior to that, he served
" in the Plymouth Church in
Plymouth, England. He is now
serving the Summerville
Adventist Church and also the
Rock Spring Church. His wife,
Carol, is active in the work of
both churches. They have a
small daughter, Katie Beth.
The family resides in
LaFayette.
Typing for high school
students in the sixth through
ninth graders will be heqd
through Aué;. 5 at Berry Col
lege on Mondays and Tuesdays
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The fee is
