William Clark
William C. Clark, 59, Sum
merville Rte. 2, passed away at
noon July 26 in Oak View Nur
sin&Home.
r. Clark was born in
Pickens County April 25, 1927,
son of the late James Monroe
Clark and Carrie Bell Richards
Clark. He was a textile worker,
a veteran of World War II and
a Baptist.
Surviving are one sister,
Mrs. Paralee Elliott; and one
brother, Arnold Clark, Sum
merville; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. July 28 in the chapel
of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home
with the Revs. DeWayne
White and Jimmy Wilborn
officiating.
Interment was in Bethany
Cemetery, Jasper.
Pallbearers were Junior
Nelson, Don Elliott, Charles
Baker, ‘‘Shorty’’ Hawkins,
Covet Stone and Donnie

a two-week illness.
She was born in Cherokee
County, Ala., Dec. 14, 1903,
daughter of the late William
Brandon Kelley and Willie
Bad%ett Kelley and lived in
Lyerly a number of years prior
to moving to Rome over 20
years ago. She was a member
of the Baptist church.
Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Leldon Col
ston and Mrs. Raymond Duke,
Rome; three sons, Branson
Gayler, Rome, Dale Gayler,
Alexandria, Va., and Max
Gayler, Monticello; one sister,
Mrs. Ted Shearer, Broomtown,
Ala.; eight grandchildren; and
one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. July 23 in Heritage
Chapel of Jennings Funeral
Home, Rome, with the Rev.
Leland Bagwell officiating.
Interment was in East
View Cemetery, Rome.

11:10 p.m. in Floyd Medical
Center.
He was born in Broomtown,
Ala., Jan. 14, 1909, son of the
late Robert K. Gilmer and
Maybelle Yancey Gilmer. Mr.
Gilmer was a retired textile
worker and a member of the
South Summerville Baptist
Church. His wife, Mae B(Slan
non Gilmer, died in 1933, and
a sister, Elizabeth Blackmon,
died Aug. 23, 1983 and a
brother, Herman Gilmer, died
Dec. 6, 1976.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Frances Ponder, Summer
ville; one son, Robert E. Gilmer
Jr., Trion; two brothers,
Yancey Gilmer and Joe Gilmer,
Summerville; three grand
children, Mrs. Claudette
Mahan, Mrs. Jeanette Slay and
Angela Gilmer; three great
grandchildren, Jeremy and
Terry Mahan and Reiner Slay:;

he served as a deacon and in
various other capacities until
his health began to fail. He was
a member of Holland Masonic
Lodge 47.

was a used automobile dealer
and a Baptist.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Ruby Dalton Norton,
Summerville; one son, Elliott
Lee Norton Jr., Summerville;
one sister, Mrs. Betty Orr, An
niston, Ala.; several nieces and
nephews.
Graveside services were
held at 10 a.m. July 28 in the
Trion Cemetery with Minister

Woman Finds
Man In Home
A Summerville woman had
a rude awakening last Satur
day, according to Summerville
Police officer Alan Bryant.
Pam Ludy, 34 East Broad
St., told police she was awaken
ed by a noise and found a man
in her living room attempting
to steal her daughter's radio.
The man fled and she struck
him with an iron rod as he
leaped off the porch, the officer
reported her saying.
Entry was gained through
the front door of the house. Tie
man was reportedly wearing
white shorts and something
over his face.
