Chamber Meet
Members of the Chattooga
Countiy Chamber of Commerce
should start thinking about
several issues, including land
use planning, former Chamber
President William B. Hair said
Tuesday morning at the
group's monthly board
meeting.
A county land use or
dinance is needed, Hair said at
the breakfast session.
Chamber President Hugh
Henderson, following Hair's
remarks, said land use plann
ing — or zoning — “is a verr
unpopular subject but we'll
face it down theroad ... " He
also indicated that he felt
building codes are needed in
the county.
In addition, Hair mention
ed President Reagan’s desire to
mount a war against illicit
drugs and saif he hoped
Chamber members would think
of ways to gain a drug-free
community in Chattooga.
He also referred to the
Quality Basic Education (QBE)
Act and said one of its goals is

The Trion Board of Educa
tion will hold its August
meeting at 5 p.m. Monday in
its new board room in the
elementary school lobby.
Items scheduled for discus
sion include a report on the
readiness of Trion High School
for the beginning of classes
Aug. 22. Work is continuing on
a renovation and air
conditioning project at the
school.

Kinzy anticipates no pro
blems with the student’s ar
rival on Friday, but said that
workmen wouf’d still be in the
hallways when tachers arrive
for pre-planning next Monday.
He expects the air-conditionin,

school.
Kinzy tentatively plans to
ask :Fproval for the 1988
c;ifiit outlay (groject which
will include building additional
classrooms in the Trion
system. Kinzy will ask the
board to determine the best
location for the additional
classrooms and what number
of additions should be
constructed.
Kinzy said he has made a
study of the needs and will
reveal his recommendations on
Monday.
Also on the agenda: the
board will confirm tfie hiring of
two teachers in the system.

Georgia Power Co. in Summer
ville, as a director, succeeding
Marshall Timberlake, the
former utility company
manager. A successor to ghilip
A. Cagle will likely be named in
the near future, Henderson
said. Cagle has moved from the
community.
Chamber Foundation presi
dent Bill Farrar said the group
had withdrawn its request for
the old Summerville Junior
High auditorium as a site for a
proposed ‘‘community forum."
Evans Scoggins said the

will start Aug. 26.

Grady McCalmon said there
has been ‘‘some activity” in in
dustrial development and the
city hopes to have an an
nouncement in the near future.
The city has been negotiating
with a company for lease or
gurchase of a speculative
uilding in the city's new in
dustriaf park off Bolling Road.
City officials said they may
have information on the com
pany’s intentions in about 10
days. |
Aleta Kellett reported that
the Chamber’s income in July
amounted to $5,660.23 and its
expenses were $3,679.65.
The Booster Breakfast will
be held Sept. 9 at The Tavern, |
Trion, hosted by Fay Hurley.
