Dry Valley Days
Dry Valley Days, held an
nually on Labor Day at the
scenic area surrounding Jarrett
Lake in Dry Valley, is the place
to be Sept. 1 for a day packed
full of activities.
Events for all ages will be
held throughout the day with
festivities beginning at 11 a.m.

Funds Used Up

residents in federally subsidiz
ed housing in the county, ac
cording to Sue Elliott, director,

Family and Children Services
made $2.5-million available
statewide to help families in
public housing pay utility bills
or buy cooling equipment, such
as fans.
Chattooga Countfilreceived
$9,234, said Mrs. Elliott, and
helped 35 families buy fans or
air conditioners, or to catch up
on utility bills. Most of those
assisted were elderly peogle on
Union Street or in the high-rise,
said Mrs, Elliott, and most had
health problems.
Patrol Probes
Three Mishaps
Three people were hurt in
three separate traffic accidents
during the last week in Chat
tooga County, according to the
Georgia State Patrol.
Trooper Eddie Lumsden
said one person was hurt in a
two-car accident on Highway
114 at cou’rr)fi' road 323 a little
over four miles south of Lyer
ly at 6:30 p.m. last Sunday.
The injured person was
identified as Exalee Austin, 67,
Piedmont, Ala., reports said.

Williams, 59, Piedmont, Ala.,
was involved in a collision with
a vehicle driven by Aaron Odell
Wood, 18, Gay{esville, Ala.
Rte. 2, said Trooper Lumsden.
Wood was charfied with
driving under the influence of
intoxicants, failing to yield the
right-of-way and driving
without the minimum amount
of insurance, reports said.
One person was hurt in a
truck accident on Highway 337
5.9 miles north of Menlo at
12:30 a.m. last Saturday, said

Reports said Charles
Burke, 50, Summerville Rte. 3,
was hurt when the truck he
was driving northbound on
Highway 337 left the roadway,
hit a ditch and overturned on
its left side. He was charged
with driving under the in
fluence of intoxicants.
One person also was hurt in
a car-motorcycle accident on
Highway 27 at Summerville

840.800 to $50,000 more pro
viding cooling help, she in
