Lifeline Begins
Working Today
The first Lifeline unit may be installed today in Chat
tooga County.
Plans early this week called for the main unit, to be bas
ed at Chattooga Hospital and Oak View Nursing Home,
to be programmed and the first home units installed.
The base unit arrived far ahead of schedule, it was an
nounced at Monday night's meeting of the Hospital
Authority, allowing the service to be placed in operation
sooner than expected.
Twenty people have signed up for the project and more
are welcomed, Authority members said.
The $5,000 base unit was purchased by the hospital this
summer and subscribers only have to pay a sls per month
fee for the service. Home installation will be free and per
formed by volunteers, according to Katherine Camp, an
Authority member, and Betty Wolstein, hospital executive
director.
The system allows individuals to summon help at the
push of a “‘button” the size of a matchbox. Even if a per
son is unable to push the button, help may be summoned
automatically wgen the person fails to “‘reset” the device
by using his or her phone within a pre-programmed period
of time.
