Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6688 Commander
William Tyson is shown at the base of a new flag pole
donated by the post, along with a flag. The granite
monument points out that the %ole and flag were

and Georgia Power Co. for their assistance in erecting
the pole and placing the monument. (Staff Photo).
Commissioner Raps
from second front
ed to build the Oak View ex
pansion at the front of the pre
sent structure, rather than on
the property at the rear of the
facifi)ty. as apparently assum
ed by Commissioner Powell.
Williams said the Highway 27
widening project would not af
fect the expansion proposal.
And he saidp the hospitai)’s at
torney has assured the
Authority that the property in
question at the rear of the
hospital does belong to the
Authority rather than to the
county. The tract was deeded
to the hospital by former Com
missioner Wayne ‘‘Pete”
Denson.
MORE JOBS
“This new facility would
employ approximately 60 to 70
jobs which we need so badly in
our county,”” Commissioner
Powell saidy in his letter. *“This
building would add over a
million dollars to our tax digest
which we desperately neeg."
The Williams application
says about 27 people would be
hired at the Bolling Road site
if the nursing home is approv
ed by the state. The Oak View
plan would add around 33 more
pedple to the staff, according to
that application.
The private facility would
cost around $l.B-million and
the Oak View expansion would
cost about $1.4-million.
The State Health Planning
Agency has delayed until Sept.
19 a decision on whether to ap
prove the Oak View expansion
or the Rome developer's con
struction project. A decision

LETTER
Commissioner Powell's let
ter to Everett Jenkins of the
state agency follows in full:
“We have noticed in our
local paper that there have
been some changes made con
cerning Nursing Home Health
Care Units.
“At the present time we on
ly have a small nursing home
in Chattooga County, which
has been full with a long
waiting list for several years.
Our position in this case is that
this nursing home remains full
with a huge waiting list and
Floyd Megical Center, Rome,
Georgia has a contract with
Chattooga County Hospital
and Nursing Home.
“The hospital at present on
ly serves from three to seven
patients and we fully unders
tand that we must furnish a
medical unit in the County.
“Our plea to you is that we
are in a large area of afflicted
and aged groups of people,
which is composed of a portion
of Walker, Gordon, Floyd,
Catoosa, Dade and Chattoo%a
County, along with DeKalb
County, Ala., and others that
are not familiar with this large
area. We are assured that we
have enough patients to ac
commodate this second facili-
Ey that we are asking for in
hattooga County. At present
we have a chance to secure
another facility in Chattooga
County — even in the City
Limits of Summerville where
every kind of accommodation

Florence to organize a *'Friends
of the Library” group.
The session will be held at
995 Central Ave., Trion.
Mrs. O.F. Nixon (the
former Winnie Pitts),
LaGrange, will be the speaker.

and will provide information on

ference room.
Trion To Open
Vehicle Bids
Bids on several vehicles or
pieces of equiiment will be

the Trion City Council at city

| Mayor J.C. Woods said
| bids likely will be opened on a
new police patrol car, a ton and
one-half truck, a pickup truck
for the gas department and a
tractor for the waste treatment
| plant.
The city's auditors also like
ly will be at the 7 p.m. meeting

is available along with a
reasonable purchase price of
this property in a nice quiet
location within one and one
half miles of the local hospital.
*The present building was
erected several years ago and
since the Health Center and
the new highway that is now
being planned along with other
buildings, we cannot unders
tand how this building could be
erected on the premises the
Hospital claims to own.
“The County Attorney, Ed
Surles states tKat the deed is
not properly executed on this
particular block of ground,
which is owned by Chattooga
County.
“Mr. Jenkins, our history is
that we are a small income
county in Northwest Georgia
with next to the highest
unemployment recorded in the
State of Georgia, and we feel
that if we could secure this
building it would in no way
take from or add to the present
situation at Chattooga gounty
Hospital.
“This new facility would
employ approximately 60 to 70
jobs which we need so badly in
our County. This building
would add over a million
dollars to our tax digest which
we desperately neeg.
“We ask of you to please
consider this plea to give more
employment, and to give a bet
ter tax stand, which also at the
gresenl: time Floyd Medical
enter does not pay Chattooga
County any taxes.
“Any consideration that
you may give us will be most
greatly appreciated.”
