Era Of ‘Moonshining’ Recalled
With law enforcement now concentrating
on eradicating an explosion in illicit drugs
throughout the United States, few people
remember that the making and selfing of
illicit whiskey, or ‘‘moonshining,” was
once the area’s biggest social problem. In

that married them 30 years
ago, Clifford Chandler, perform
the ceremony again. They ex
changed their vows again, and
their son-in-law, Tony Christie,
sang, ‘‘There Is Love."” Tony is
the pastor of the First Baptist
Church of Lyerly. Tracy Green

oveliness took place in the

Accidents Hurt Six
Four people were hurt in
two separate traffic accidents
in Chattooga County Sunday,
according to the Georgia State
Patrol, and two people were in
{'ured in another Lru?fic mishap

Trooper David Eury said |
one person was hurt in a two
car collision a tenth of a mile
north of Summerville on U. S.
Highway 27 at 8:45 p.m.
Sunday.
He said a Blazer driven by
Robert David Dunwoody, 25,
119 South Ave., Cartersville,
was involved in a collision with
an S-10 pickup driven by Terr,
Lee Johnson Jr., 16, 93 Nort}‘;
Hill St., Summerville. Trooper
Eurz said Johnson was injured
in the mishap.
Three people were hurt in a
two-car crash at 2:10 p.m. Sun
day on U. S. 27 1.8 miles north
of Summerville, said Sgt. Joe
Gossett.
An automobile driven by

merville Rte. 4, was involved in

Gossett. Both drivers were in
jured, as was Gail Tidmore, 39,
Summerville Rte. 4, a
Rassenger in the Tidmore car,
e said. All three were carried
to Chattooga County Hospital
for treatment.
Two people were hurt in a
one-car mis?xap on Oak Hill
Road 6.1 miles west of Sum
merville on Aug. 27, said
Trooper Bill DeHart.
Listed by DeHart as slight
ly inglured were Lanada Ann
Mitchell, 26, Lyerly Rte. 1,
driver of the car, and Billy
McKissier, 25, Gaylesville,
Ala., Rte. 1, a passenger. Ms.
Mitchell was charged with
driving under the infiuence of
intoxicants and too fast for
conditions. Trooper DeHart
said Ms. Mitchell told him she
overreacted to an oncoming car
close to the centerline of the
road, swerved and ran off the
roadway into some bushes.
