Multi-State Burglary
Charges Facing Three
A multi-state burglary ring
has been broken up by the ar
rest of three people, according
to Chattooga County Sheriff
Gary McConnell.
Johnny Glenn Keith, 24,
Fort Payne, Ala., was in the
Chattooga Jail Wednesday, be
ing held on $75,000 bond.
Two other suspects were be
inF held in the DeKalb County,
Ala.,, Jail on burglary and
forgery charges, awaiting ex
tradition to Chattooga County,
McConnell said.
The three are charged with
burglarizing State Line
Package Store, Cloudland, last
Aug. 16. They are also wanted
in connection with thefts in
DeKalb County, Scottsboro,
Ala., Gadsden, Ala., Chat
tanooga and Gatlinburg,
Tenn., the sheriff said.
The forgery charges stem
from stolen credit cards and
their subsequent use, McCon
nell added.
SIX JUVENILES
Meanwhile, six juveniles
have been arrested for the May
burglary of the home of David
Espy. S{lmmerville Rte. 2, ac
cording to McConnell and Inv.
Ron Turner. A coin collection
stolen at that time was
recovered at various locations
in Chattooga and Walker
Counties, they said. The
juveniles have been turned
over to the custody of their
parents.
LIFE SAVINGS
The life savings of an elder
ly Trion man have been
;fiported stolen, according to
cConnell and Dep. Lydia
Robertson.
James R. Shropshire, Trion
Rte. 1, reported last Friday
that $9,300 cash in a billfold
had been stolen from his 1970

TWO CHARGED
Two people have also been
arrested in connection with the
Sept. 17 burglary of the Penn
ville Amusement Center,

They were identified as
James Monroe Pierce, 22, and
Johnny Lee Fowler, 26, Penn
ville community. Both were
charged with burglary Sept. 25
and then released on $25,000
bond each. A third suspect,
Johnny Freeman, age and ad
dress unavailable, was also be
ing held in DeKalb County,
Ala., for Chattooga authorities,
Turner said.
Two suspects have been ar
rested in the vandalism of a
1984 Camaro Z2B automobile
owned by Richard Hogue, 55
Park Ave., Trion, Sept. 25.
Charged with criminal trespass
were Jay M. Jones, 19, Trion,
and Rhonda K. Turner, 20,
Summerville. They were releas
ed on SSOO bond each.
Inv. Turner said the vehicle
was damaged with paint.
CAR THEFT
A 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass
stolen last Friday night from
Larry Fuller, Summerville Rte.
5, while it was parked in the
Red Foods parking lot, Sum
merville, was found partially
stripped and burned Sunday,
according to Deps. Charlie
Starkey and Sgt. Jerry Daven
port. The vehicle was found on
the Old Berryton Highway
burned with three wheels miss
ing, they said.

Three cartons of cigarettes
were reported missing. he said,

A S6O bicycle was reported
stolen from Nicgel Brown, 302
Scoggins St., last Sunday said

taken from the Wal-Mart park
ing lot, reports said.
MAILBOX
The mailbox of J.C.
Broadrick, Welcome Hill Road,
Trion, was destroyed Sept. 25,
said Dep. Richard Gifford. Fur
ther investigation resulted in
two individuals, including a
juvenile, being arrested on
drunkenness charges, reports
said. Warrants were to be
taken on the pair for damage to
the mailbox.
Someone attempted to
enter the home OF Peggy
Warner, Silver Hill Road, Sum
merville, on Sept. 24, said Dep.
Gifford. A screen in a bedroom
window was cut. Nothing was
reported missing.
Two people were arrested
Sept. 24 on charges of dispos
ing of mortgaged property.
They were ifentifiety as Roy
Blackmon, 38, and Sheila D.
Blackmon, 27. They were
released on $3,000 bond each.
ARRESTS
Other arrests by the
sheriff's office last week
included:
— Paul Elrod, Trion, was
charged with forgery Tuesday
and turned over to the Floyd
County Sheriff's Office.
— Stacey Lee Wallin, 19,
was chargecl, with criminal at
tempt and released on SSOO
property bond Monday.
— James Joseph Becker,
19, was picked up Monday on
a bench warrant on theft by
taking charges.
- Glen(fii Gayle Vaughn,
39, was charged with simple
battery Sunday and released
on SSOO bond.
— Thomas Walter Laney,
30, was charged with simple
battery Saturday and released
on SSOO bond. Laney also was
charged with disorderly con
duct by Summerville police.
— A juvenile girl was charg
ed with shoplifting Sunday and
released to the custody of her
parents.
— James H. Stamper, 42,
was charged with aggravated
assault Sept. 24 and released
on $50,000 bond.
— Tony Lee Evans, 25, was
charged Sept. 23 with criminal
trespass and released on SSOO
bong.
— Gary Guinn, 31, Trion,
was charged with encumbering
a security interest Tuesday
and released on SI,OOO proper
ty bond.

Meeting
Oct. 18
Eleven Chattooga County
residents have become
members of Company B, First
Georgia Division, according to
Bobby (Buzz) Lee Cook Jr.,
Summerville.
The next meeting of the
Confederate reenactment unit
will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 18, at the Barfield Farm,
Dover Cut Road, for members
to gain hands-on experience in
firing black powder rifles and
pistols.
