Resigns
. .
Position
Gov. Joe Frank Harris will
appoint a new Chattooga Coun
ty State Court Solicitor to suc
ceed Summerville attorney
Bobby (Buzz) Lee Cook Jr.,
who has resigned the post, ac
cording to Cfigttooga Probate
Judge Jon Payne.
Cook had been considering
resigning the $15,000 per year
parttime glosition for some
time but thought an election
would be required to fill his
unexpired term, Payne said.
However, the 1986 Georgia
General Assembly changed the
law to allow the governor to ap
point a replacement, Payne
said.
Cook's resignation letter to
Payne is expected to be rewrit
ten and addressed to Governor
Harris, the probate judge said.
The effective date of the
resignation is still expected to
be Jan. 1, 1987, giving the
governor's office time to seek
interested attorneys for the
position.
To be considered, a person
must be a member in good
standing of the Georgia Bar
Association and a practicing
attorney for five years.
A parttime secretarial posi
tion is also provided with the
position.
Cook was elected in 1984 to
a four-year term.
