Letters To The Editor
‘King Of Swamps’ Writes
Dear Editor,
The surface water from Rena Avenue and
Lewis Street in Pennville runs into my yard and
usually stays until August, except for this year
because it's been so cfil;/
I have talked with the past and present
county commissioner for years about this situa
tion and they agree this is the fault of the coun-
LK‘S ditches. And they assure me that whenever
the ’lyard dries up that the{ will fix this.
his year I've talked with Harry Powell who
always refers me to Bill Willingham, and he has
told me that the backhoe is torn up. Well, 1

Impeach Powell On Language
Dear Editor:
I am writing about the Commissioner Harry
Powell. He has disgraced the Commissioner’s
Office with his petty doings and his vulgar
language.

and if this isn't corrected, I'm going to stop up
the culvert and ditches in my yarg and route

Is Bigfoot ‘The Thing’
At Corpsewood?
Dear Editor:
[ am writinf {ou again in regard to whatever it is Mr. Brown
saw that you folks have named Bigfoot.
Some of the younger ?eneration talked to me about it this
week, and seems they feel like he may have been something of
that description and it could be “The Thing" that Corpsewood
warned about on the sign that stated, ‘‘Beware of the Thing."
Is this The Thing . . . instead of Bigfoot? I have the strangest
feelings these young folks could be correct and the thought
frightens me a little bit.
1 know who they call Bigfoot quite well on sight, but I will
not disclose his name at this time,
I know one sign to the mansion said, “‘Stop Squawk
ing . .. Chew Hawkin,” or I called Corpsewood the mansion, or
castle, because the buildinfi was s 0 unusual. The style and all
was so different from any thing I had ever seen. In a way it was
really a pretty place. I saw it only after part of it had I;urned.
’l}l,mere were a lot of pickled egfif there in the yard, in jars I
recall. I was told there was a churchhouse there with mattresses
and there was also a graveyard.
Perhaps there was. I do not know myself. This left an after
effect on the whole county of Chattoogr'a. I think, and especially
the younger generation, that they will never forget.
I hope someday this county can afford new equipment to work
on the roads here with, so that they can do better, for I was told
our old equipment is simrly just about worn out.
Everything does get old and worn out some time and has to
be replaced as the funds are available. The City of Lyerly, I
understand, does have a new city hall but, no equipment, to cut
the rights of way on the roads and cut trees with and things of
this sort. So they have to call the county to help the city or the
town and this county is a pretty b(iF place to cover all the roads
that are paved and those unpaved still.
How is everything going to be done? I am just wondering.
We need to think an gray — about all these matters concern
ing our county, our roads, streets, highways, avenues, circles and
drives. The trees and bushes do grow out causing poor visabili
ty and other problems and I know it is a fightin &(;Ltle just to
keep part of it done and accounted for, it has to %e. and how do
we get new equipment for these things..."
I myself do not know and did not%(now until today, how it
is all getting in a bad condition.
I am concerned now about several thifigs that have come to
my attention this week. Now, I feel just like crying. I do not feel
real excited this week at all.
Best regards,
Mary C%\ilders

nondisabled people using parking spots reserved for the
handicapped in other towns and cities all over the United
States.
That's why the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is
remounting its Handicapped Parking Awareness Cam
paign. And the DAV has asked governors and mayors
across the country to support this educational effort by
proclamation of Handicapped Parking Awareness Month
in their states and cities during October.
We hope you'll catch the DAV public service an
nouncements we've sent to television and radio stations
across the country. And you may see people in your
neighborhood, placing reminders on the windshields of
cars parked in handicapped parking places when they
aren't properly identified as cars driven by disabled per
sons. Anyone desiring to receive their own Handicapped
Parking Awareness Kit should write to: Disabled
American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio
45214, Attn: Handicapped Parking.
Again, the DAV is not asking anyone to feel sorry for
disabled veterans and other handicapped people. We're
simply asking for some thoughtfulness and courtesy.
Handicapped parking places are for handicapped peo
ple. Please — don’t put yourself in their place.

Disabled American Veterans).
