Attend
VICA Meet
The Georgia Chapter of the
Vocational Industrial Clubs of
America (VICA) will hold its
annual State Leadership Train
ing Conference this wee.l)(end at
the Waverly Hotel, Atlanta.
More than 500 local club of
ficers and their teacher
advisors will attend the
conference,
Seven representatives of
the Chattooga High School
VICA Club will also attend the
conference. The group will in
clude sponsor Freddie Dowdy
and six officers: Dawn Wells,
reporter; Donna Hartline, vice
president; Allison Allen, presi
dent; Sheral Marsh, treasurer;
Joe Middleton, treasurer; and
Sonya Johnson, club advisor.
Parlimentarian Brian Scott will
be unable to attend the
conference,
VICA is a national
organization of vocational
trade and industrial students
which provides opportunities
for leadership and occupational
skill training that enhance
classroom instruction.
The student officers will at
tend workshops on group
dynamics, leadership develop
ment, including communica
tions skills; membership
development; and workin
with committees. Students wifi
have the opportunity to prac
tice garliamentary procedure
and decision-making skills as
they conduct business and
decide on club activities for the
school year.
Special presenters include
G. B. Prince Jr., deputy assis
tant secretary, U.S. Depart
ment of Labor and former na
tional VICA officer and staff
member, who will give the
keynote address on *‘The Need
for Leadership in the World of
Work." Other presenters are
Richard Sullivan of Central
State University, Oklahoma;
National VICA staff member
Gary Diehl; and Edith Bullard,
representative of Johnson and
Wales College, which gives
scholarships to outstanding
VICA students.
All VICA participants are
expected to earn the Torch of
Knowledge Award for learning
14 essential items of knowledge
related to the organization.

The 1985 audit of Chat
tooga County's finances is
ready ...but it wasn't
available Wednesday.
Mrs. Harry Powell, wife of
the commissioner, confirmed
Wednesday afternoon that Jim
Finney, Rome, the county's
auditor, had brought a copy of
the document to Summerville
that day. But Powell wasn’t in
his office at the time, she said.
Finney will return to brief
Powell on the audit, she in
dicated, and it will be up to the
commissioner to relese the
document.
Powell said Tuesday he
would make a copy available to
the public.
Finney said earlier that the
audit wouldn't show anything
unusual, although he would
have recommendations for im
provements in the county’s ac
counting system.
Assault Charge
Horace E. Wooten Jr., 21,
Hawkins Drive, Summerville,
was charged with aggravated
assault last week following an
incident in the downtown area.
Wooten was later released on
$25,000 bond.
He is charged with shooting
Stanley London, 8 Willows St.,
in the arm during a car chase
along North Commerce Street
and West Washington Street
on the night of S?L 24. The in
cident was viewed by Summer
ville Police Sgt. Mark
Underwood.

Tesa Elizabeth, Aug. 23 at
Floyd Medical Center. She
weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.
She was 19 inches long. Grand

and Mrs. John Morgan, Palm
Beach, Fla., Thelma Faulkner,
Lyerly, and Bryant Campbell,
