Utility Relocation
Loan Given Approval
A 15-year-loan agreement |
has been executed by the |
Georgia Environmental
Facilities Authority with the
city of Summerville for reloca
tion of utilities along U. S.
Hifhwa 27 between Summer- |
ville ami, Trion. ;
The agreement provides
$453,460 at a 6 percent interest
rate.
A grant agreemem of |
almost $99,000 from the state |
also has been executed, said |
Grady McCalmon, Summer- |
ville city manager.
The funds are a portion of
the amount needed to relocate
utilities along a 4.1-mile stretch
of U. S. 27 to be widened dur- |
ing the next year. J
The Georgia Department of }
Transportation is busy helping
clear the rights-of-way aflmg
the stretch, saving the city a
considerable amount of money
over original estimates.
Cary Harbuck Inc.,
Americus, had earlier submit- |
ted a bid of $1,039,949 for the |
relocation work but the DOT i
agreed to do some of the clear- |
ing and grubbing work for the |
city, saving an as-yet undeter- |
mined amount. Final cost of |
the Harbuck contract, |
however, is expected to be less
than sl-million, but the city
may still lack between
$150,000 to $250,000 in having |
enough to pay for its share o% ‘
the relocation costs.
GROWTH |
The latest loan afreement, ‘
which was executed last week,
was funded by the Authority |
and is designed to help com
munities prepare for economic
growth, said Jerry Griffin, |
Authority executive director. |
Director Griffin noted that |
the funds for the loan were part |
of a S2O-million apa;l)ropriation I
made by the General Assembly |
during the 1986 Session. “This |
