THE NEWS has also contacted
some astronomers about the star over
Bethlehem and they have no scientific
explanation for the phenomena. ‘‘One
day it wasn't there and the next day it
was,”’ said one. ‘‘lt’s not moving and yet
it has a bright, bright luminescence.
We're still studying it.”
Foreign capitols report that several
“wise men’’ are enroute to Bethlehem.
They claim to have seen the bright star
over Bethlehem and say that it herald
ed the birth of the “King of the Jews,”
a report which was of interest to King
Herod in Jerusalem. The foreign envoys
probably will stop in Jerusalem to seek
an audience with the king before conti
nuing their journey to Bethlehem,
foreign correspondsnts l’:ave reported.
IN THE MEANTIME, palace
sources indicate that King Herod has
called together all his advisors private
ly to discuss the event, particularly
passages in the Jewish religious scrip
tures referring to the future birth of a
king who would rule over the Jewish
peogle. י

Protection
Only four people had sign
ed up by noon Tuesday for
Summerville's fire protection
service for residents and
businesses outside the city
limits, according to the office of
Grady McCalmon, city
manager.
The office has received
around 10 to 15 calls daily
about the city's intention to
halt fire protection service as of
midnight Dec. 31, McCalmon'’s
office said.
Summerville's City Council
voted earlier this month to halt
fire protection to businesses
and residents outside the city
limits unless they are
customers of the city’s utilities
or unless they subscribe to the
service by next Wednesday,
Dec. 31.

ahead and take Mary as my wife
because her child was conceivedy of the
Holy Spirit,” Joseph said. ‘‘The angel
told me, ‘she shall bring forth a son and
call his name Jesus because he’ll save
his people from their sins.”

MARY SAID she was visited by an

in Nazareth. ;He told me I was highly
favored among all women,' the maiden

shouldn't be afraid because God had
favored me in that I would bear His son
and He would be given the throne of
David. I hadn't known a man so I ask

ANALYSTS ARE not sure what the
bright star and the event involving the
shepherds signify. They are equally
Euzzled about the reaction in Herod's
ousehold. And they say the future visit
of foreign emissaries with the young
child is virtually unprecedented.
Only time will telrwhether the birth
will, indeed, signify ‘‘on earth, peace,
good will toward men.”
