Order of the Eastern Star, will
hold a hobo dinner at 5 p.m.

COUNTRY SATISFACTION TO PLAY AT SUBLIGNA SATURDAY
Music Concert Sponsored By Volunteer Fire Department
Nutrition Heart

Local students will participate in the 12th annual
statewide observance of Nutrition Heart Week next week.
Students will learn how important diet is to maintaining
healthy hearts.
Accordinf to local school nutritionist Toni Tutton,
students will not only be served special ‘‘heart healthy"
lunches during the week, but will also participate in ac
tivities designed to meet Essential Ski?ls standards for
Georgia Schools.
VARIETY OF SOURCES
“This year the school media specialists are working on
activities for Heart Week along with the lunchroom
managers,” Mrs. Tuton said. “This way, students will
rece‘i(ve instruction from a variety of sources during the
week.”
Classroom teachers will also incorporate nutrition and
health information into the week’s lesson plans. The follow
ing topics will be emphasized in local schools this week, ac
cording to Mrs. Tutton:
¥ Tie importance of heart health.
* Basic food groups with emphasis on foods low in salt,
cholesterol and calories.
4 b"‘ The importance of healthy versus unhealthy eating
abits.
* The importance of eating a balanced meal.
* Ways tgat current eating habits will affect health in
adulthood.
A number of games, discussion questions, matching and
decoding exercises have been developed for the week.
MATH ACTIVITY
FollowinF is a math activity students will use to com
pute the value of their current eating habits.

Meet Set

The Summerville Recrea
tion Board is scheduled to meet
at 6 p.m. today at the Recrea
tion Eenter, Bolling Road. The
meeting was postponed from
Tuesday when a quorum could
not be reached because of il-

mitments by board members.
The panel is expected to
discuss a fee system for non
city residents at tonight's
meetinf. The board recom
mended to the Summerville Ci
ty Council that a fee system be
imposed on April 1.
The city has indicated that
it has been unsuccessful in ob
taining a commitment from
Harrngowell, Chattooga com
missioner, for recreation
funding.
In other items on tonight's
agenda, the board is expected
to discuss opening and closing
dates for the swimming pools,
the infield for a new practice
field, summer equipment, fees
for tournaments and van use
for tournaments.
