Earl E. Atkins, 76, Naomi
community near LaFayette,
passed away Feb. 18 in a Chat
tanooga hospital.
He retired from Roper
Corp. and had worked for the
U. é) Forestry Service for three
{ears. A past president of the
aFayette Ruritan Club, he
was a member and deacon and
Sunday School teacher at the
Naomi Baptist Church.
Survivors include his
widow, Beatrice Atkins; two
daughters, Earlene White,
LaFayette and Juanita
Watkins, Alabama; son, Billy
Atkins, LaFayette; three
brothers, J.B. Atkins,
LaFayette, Carl Atkins and
Troy Atkins, Chattanooga;
four sisters, Leona Langston,
Trion, Frances Wilkes, Rosa
Lee Coffee and Louise Wallin,
LaFayette; 11 irandchildren;
16 freat-grandc ildren; nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Naomi
Baptist Church with the Revs.
Walter Mantooth and Tony
Tucker officiating.
Interment was in the
LaFayette Cemetery.
The LaFayette Chapel of
Lane Funeral Home had
charge of arrangements.

He was born in Shattooga
County March 18, 1906, son of
the late John Bartlett and Et
ta Rowlls Bartlett. Mr,
Bartlett was a retired textile
worker, a veteran of World
War 11, a member of the Riegel
Quarter Century Club, antfa
member of Lf)\,e Pennville
church of Christ.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Annie Kirby Bartlett,
Trion; two daughters, Mrs.
Carolyn Lanier, Ten Mile,
Tenn., and Mrs. Nancy Weeks,
Trion; one sister, Nzrrs. Ana
Berrg. Metter; eight grand
children, three great
grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel
of Erwin-Petitt F“’uneral Home
with Minister Philip Gray
officiating.
Interment was in Green
Hills Memory Garden.
Active pallbearers were

James Little, John Little and
Jamey Pilgrim.
Bobby Burton
Bobby James Burton, 41,
Naples, Fla., passed away Feb.
13 in Naples.
He was born July 24, 1945
in Chattooga County, son of
the late James Weldson and
Onia Mae Burton.
Survivors include one
sister, Susie Mae Burton
Davis, Naples; three aunts,
Mary Burts, Naples, Nateriena
Mostiller, Gore community,
and Louise Douglas, Chat
tanooga, Tenn.; cousins and
other relatives.
Funeral services were held
at 2 f.m. last Friday in the
chapel of Price and Sons Mor
tuary with the Rev. James
Dallas officiating.
Interment was in Pleasant
Hill Cemetery.
Cousins were pallbearers
and nieces were flowerbearers.

Joseph Benjamin
Gilbreath, 72, 302 Hall St.,
LaFayette, passed away Satur
day morning in Hutchins
Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong
resident of Walker County, son
of the late Robert Hampton
and Ruth Roberterson
Gilbreath. Mr. Gilbreath had
been employed with Shop
Right Supermarket, LaFay
ette, since 1963.
He was a member of the Se
cond Baptist Church,
LaFayette. A brother, Douglas
Gilbreath, died in 1944.
Mr. Gilbreath is survived
by his widow, Mrs. Estel Mae
Hyobbs Gilbreath; two
daughters, Mrs. Thelma
Gilbreath Wright, Rock Spring
and Mrs. Barbara Gilbreat
Winkles, Rossville; one son,
Joseph Benjamin Gilbreath,
Summerville; one brother,
William Cooper Gilbreath,
LaFayette; one sister, Miss
Beatrice Gilbreath, LaFayette;
five grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 4 p.m. Sunday in LaFayette
Chapel, with Dr. George Mikell
and the Revs. R. V. Wells and
David Grebel officiating.
Interment was in
LaFayette Cemetery.

Robert Packer
Robert P. Packer, 85, Sum
merville Rte. 4, passed away
Sunday morning at a Rome
retirement home.
He was a lifelong resident
of Chattooga County and was
retired from Berry College
where he went to work in 1931
in the business office until he
was promoted to comptroller
until his retirement in 1959.
Mr. Packer was a member of
the Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church where he has taught
the Adult Men's Sunday
School Class for many years.
Survivors include his
widow, Mrs. Delphia B.
Packer; two brothers, William
C. Packer and G.C. Packer,
Summerville; three sisters,
Mrs. Zelma Christian, Rome,
Mrs. Eddie P. Powell, Broom
town, Ala., and Mrs. Mildred
P. Housch, Melbourne, Fla.
Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hill
Chapel of Lane Funeral Home
with the Rev. Mark Kelley
officiating.
Interment was in Pleasant
Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
deacons of tfie Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church, Roy Owings,
Jim Hunter, Jimmy Hix, Jim

Mrs. Janyce Dyer Plem
mon, 36, Copfierhlll. Tenn.,
passed away Keb. 17 in an
Atlanta hospital.
Mrs. Plemmons was a
former resident of Summer
ville, where her husband, Kerry
Plemmons, was pharmacist at
Chattooga County Hospital.
While residing in Summerville,
she was a member of the Sum
merville First Baptist Church
and at the time of her death
was a member of the First Bap
tist Church, McCaysville-
Copperhill. She was a member
of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Mrs. Plemmons is survived
by her widower, Kerry Plem
mons; two daughters, Miss An
nah Plemmons and Miss
Dorothy Plemmons, Cop
erhill; two brothers, Larry
%yer. Riverside, and Eric
Dyer, Blue Ridge; one sister,
Mrs. Cynthia Wheeler, Whor
ton, N. J.
Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. last Friday at the
First Baptist Church,
McCaysville-Copperhill with
Dr. Maurice Crowder and Dr.
Jack Colwell officiating.
Interment was 1n the
Crestlawn Cemetery,
Copperhill.

Eassed away Feb. 22 in a Rome
ospital.
He was born in Lamar
County, Ala., April 30, 1937.
Mr. Rogers was sales manager
of the United Insurance Com
pany of America.
Surviving are his widow,

Rome; one son, Chris Rogers,

at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel
of Jennings Funeral Home,
Rome, with the Rev. Gary Liv
ingston officiating.

the D.A.V., James ‘‘Sloppy"
Floyd Post 49, Veterans of
Foreign Wars and the
American Legion.

Three plastic but realistically painted
owls have been ordered by Chattooga
County Commissioner Harry Powell in an
effort to end the pigeon problem that con
tinues to plague tEe county courthouse.
Pigeon droppings must be washed from
the courthouse steps each morning, caus
ing slippery conditions. Custodian Marvin

Owls To End Pigeon Problem?
Chili Supper
A chili supper will be held
at Fisher's Chapel United
Methodist Church beginning at
5 p.m. Saturday. The supper
was gostponed from last
Saturday.
Chili, hot dogs, dessert and
drinks will be served at the
church, located near Subligna.

plans call for the owls to be located
somewhere near the pigeons’ roosting
