1987 community improvement
youth grant program. This
year, the company encourages
patriotic projects that tie in
with the ll)3icentennial of the
U. S. Constitution.
Each year Metropolitan
makes grants up to $250 to
groups of young people who
submit the best proposals for
hands-on projects to benefit
the community. These grants
are intended as seed money to
pay for materials, while the
vouth donate their time.
Anf' project is eligible, but
special consideration will be
given this year to those of a
patriotic theme such as clean
ing up a local landmark,

Paving Work On Rome Boulevard

tage of good weather early this week to
resurface part of Rome Boulevard at the
Lyerly Highway and South Commerce
Street intersections in Summerville.
Trion Man Charged In Thefts
A Trion man has been ar
rested on a variety of charges
in connection with residential
thefts and possessing a stolen
vehicle.
Max Wilson 11, 19, 202
Rossville Blvd., Trion, was
charged last Friday with theft
by receiving stolen property
from another state. He also
was arrested on theft by taking
char%es. He was wanted on
simple battery charges and on
a bench warrant charging theft

according to the state Department of

Chattooga Sheriff’s Office said
some $1,370 worth of items
were taken from the home of
Scott Millican, Summerville
Rte. 3, and Dell Bullard, Trion
Rte. 1, on Feb. 23. Listed as
missing were a stereo with
Sf)eakers, guitar, amplifier,
electronic components and a
microwave oven. Turner said
the items had been disposed of
at Fort Payne, Ala., and
Walker County filawn shops.
Dep. P. R. Hill said a 1984
Bronco was also recovered at
the rear of 417 N. Commerce
St., Summerville, last Friday,
when Wilson was arrested. The
vehicle had been reported
stolen from Chattanooga,
Tenn. It was listed as belong
ing to Gary W. Turner, 1 West
Haven Dr., Trion.
RING TAKEN
A SI,BOO diamond and ruby
ring was rt}ported stolen from
the home of Tony Smith, Sum
merville Rte. 1, between Feb.
24 and last Friday, said Inv.
Greg Latta.
The home of Gary Hancock,
105 W. Elm St., Trion, was
burglarized between Feb. 20
and Feb. 24, said Dep. Richard
Gifford. Listed as missing were
an AM-FM stereo cassette
player valued at $375, a wall
clock valued at S2O and

charged with criminal trespass
last Thursday and released on
SSOO bond.
— Rosa Pauline Laney, 27,
303 Bittings St., Summerville,
was charged with two counts of
simple battery and one count
of criminal trespass last week
and released on $6,000 bond.
— Charles Danny Hensley,
34, Summerville, was charged
with criminal trespass and sim
ple battery last week and
released on $4,000 bond.

A Lindale man was charg
ed with burglary last Friday
after allegedfy being found in
side a Summerville residence

Nix said Poole was found in
side the residence of Letha
Smith, 216 Allen St., last Fri
day. Officers had received a

A 1986 model pickup truck
found outside the residence
was later identified as belong
ing to Poole, said Chief Arlen
Thomas.
ARREST
A Summerville man was ar
rested Sunday following three
separate visits by police to his
residence, according to officers
Nix and Grady Alfen.
He was identified as John
Hamilton Wade, 29, Robert
Street. Wade was charged with
driving without a license, refus
ing a driving under the in
fluence of intoxicants test and
assault on an officer by
resisting arrest.
Officer Nix said after the
first call to Wade's house, he
was advised to go inside by
police. Two hours later,
another problem involving
Wade was reported and 45
minutes after the second inci
dent, Nix said he saw Wade
