Cruise” Feb. 14, held at the
Trion Recreation Center.

guitar; and Greg Scoggins on
the trumpet.
A meal was served in a
Valentine atmosphere by
candlelight. Soft dinner music
added to the occasion.
After the meal, Larry
Gillilan presented a stand-up
comedy routine.
Youth of the church work
ed with Peggy Richardson as
director to make the ‘“‘cruise’”
a success.
Benefit Singing
The New Grace and Hymn
Masters will appear at a
benefit singing at 7:30 p.m. Fri
day at Summerville CEurch of
God, Rome Boulevard.
Proceeds of the singing will
go to missions.
The public is invited.

Two missionaries with The
Christian and Missionary
Alliance will speak at the an
nual missions conference of
Pennville Alliance Church to
day through Sunday.
The Rev. Roy G. Solvig,
Alliance missionary in the
Ivory Coast, will speak at 7
g.m. today and Fritf:y at the
ennville church.
INDIA
Mrs. Anna J. Evans,
Alliance missionary in India,
will speak at the church at 7
p.m. gaturday and Sunday.
The Rev. Daniel E. Tanner
is minister of the Pennville
church.
Mrs. Evans will report that
doubling the number of
evanielical church members
and the number of churches is
the goal of Indian pastors in

One has already become an
unorganized church with 25 at
tending, she said. Four other
churches begun in the area
have continued to grow, Mrs.
Evans said, and the pastors are
concentrating their ministry on
the hundreds of young people
being contacted by the cfiurch.
GROWTH
The growth of evangelical
churches in Africa is
phenomenal, the Rev. Mr.
SolviF said. He and his wife,
Kathleen, have participated in
programs that have encourag
ed this African church. Both
are active in teaching, youth
activities and village
ministries.
The Alliance launched its
year-long Centennial Celebra
tion in May, 1986. It was
founded 1887 as a missionary
sending society and later

Furloughing missionaries

churches to report on overseas
ministries.
The Alliance Centennial will
culminate at its General Coun
cil to be held in St. Paul, Min
nesota, May 18-24. Several
thousand people are expected
including guests from many of
the 51 nations in which the
Alliance ministers.
Youth Day
Youth Sunday will be
observed this weekend at Dry
Valley Baptist Church.
The Re;r(. Tim Haxlall will be
guest speaker. Special guests
will incfilde the é)inging Tom
pkins Family, Jacksonville,
Ala.
Sunday school will begin at
10 a.m. and worship services at
10:45 a.m.
Dinner will be served
following the service.
Saturday Singing
A singing will be held at
7:30 p.m. Saturday at Berryton
Bible Mission.
. The Gospel Seekers, Scott
sboro, Ala., will be the featured
singers.

Floyd Junior College has put
together a unique luncheon

Georgia head football coach

Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Ernest and Doris Clovis, Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of
Trion, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on
Feb. 16. Several relatives and friends honored the cou
%le. AmonE those attending were DeForest Floyd,
rion; and Esther Floyd, Centre, Ala. Mrs. Clovis was
employed by The News prior to moving to Florida 27
years ago. She is a retires bookkeeper and her husband
retired from the Vero Beach Municipal Power Plant.
