TEACHERS TO KEEP PAY
Chattooga Schools Change Jury Policy

The Chattooga County
Board of Education changed
its golicy on jury leave for
teachers during its monthly
meeting Monday night.
The change was approved
in a split decision, 3-1 with
board chairman Joel Cook abs
taining. Board members
William Mitchell, Leroy
Massey and Leon King were in
favor of the change and Joyce
Johnson voted against the
measure, which wifi not be ef
fective until the next school
year,
Beginning this fall, teachers
will no longer have to give their
jury duty Fay to the school
system unless their absence
from school requires the hiring
of a substitute teacher.
CURRENT POLICY
School Supt. Don Hayes
told the board that its current
policy requires teachers to
remit the entire pay received
for jury duty whether the{
miss a whole day from school.
Hayes said he had collected
$933 from the 17 teachers who

Around $l5O damage was
done to a truck at Pennville
when it was hit by pellets fired
from a gun last Monday, said
Sgt. Dan Young. The truck
was owned by Duane Yancey,
Lyerly Rte. 1. Reports said
Yancey talked to a person in
the area who said he had fired
shots in the direction of the
truck. No arrests were listed.

BUS LEASE

request from the Trion Board
of Education to lease Chat
tooga school buses for use at
sports activities and other
functions during the school
year.
Bus Supt. Wilbur Ragland
said the leasing program would
create maintenance problems

at once and that many buses
are kept at drivers' homes. He

The students will be given free
tickets and transportation by
the Rome Shrine Club.
The board approved the hir
ing of Kathy Jarrett and Nina
Evett as substitute bus
drivers.
A 4-H Club trip for district
level project competition was
also approved by the board.
Fifth and sixth grade 4-H
members will attend the
meeting Saturday.
