Beer, Whiskey Confiscated In Raid
Summerville police and the Chattooga
County Sheriff's Office last Friday night
conducted a raid in Summerville, con
fiscated a quantity of beer and whiske
and made one arrest. Charged witK

Vandals Shoot Windows
In Summerville, Trion
Vandals using a pellet gun
have shattered the gl’ass doors
and windows of several
businesses in the Summerville-
Trion area during the past
week, according to the (filat
tooga County Sheriff’s Office
and Summerville police.
Dep. P. R. Hill said a glass
door in a business at 1018 Cen
tral Ave., Trion, was shot dur
ing the weekend, along with a
%lass door at Acro-Tex, 1025
entral Ave., Trion.
. Chief Dep. Jadie Price said
a door at the Trion branch of
Farmers and Merchants Bank,
1012 Central Ave., was shot
over the weekend, causing
some S4OO in damage.
A window in McDonald's
restaurant, 100 Trion Rd.,
Summerville, was shot Mon
day, said Dep. Barry Pless.
Summerville officer Monroe
Mathis said windows at
Jackson Drug Co., Commerce
Street at East Washington
Street, were shot on two dif
ferent occasions, once over the
weekend and again Tuesday.
Sgt. Larry Bennett of the
Summerville Police Depart
ment said holes were shot in
the plate glass window at Jor
dan Gas Co., North Commerce
Street, last Saturday.
Business-Government
Day Set Next Tuesday
Activities highlighting career opportunities will be the
focus of the National Youth Week observance next week
in Chattooga County, sponsored by the Summerville-Trion
Optimist Club. :
Students next Tuesday giunng ““Business and Govern
ment Day"' will garticipat,e in “running”’ local government
and business offices.
Next Wednesday, students from Trion and Chattooga
High Schools will attend a career opportunity fair in the
Chattooga High iym. Representatives from colleges and
industries throughout the South will be available to talk
with students.

Chattooga County’s
unemployment rate increased
slightl)y during January from
last December, accordying to
the Georgia Department of
Labor.
The county's unemploy
ment rate was 8 percent in
January, compared to 7.5 per
cent in December. It was still
considerably lower than the
January, 1986 rate of 10.1
percent.

commissioner, said 7,935 fleo
ple were employed in Chat
tooga in January, compared to
8,045 in December and 7,603 in
January, 1986.

The Chattooga County
Sheriff's Department last
Sunday killed a vicious
half pit bulldog that had
terrorized residents of
Summerville Rte. 3 for
three days.
Someone apparently
dropped the animal off in
the area, said reports filed
by Defi. Lydia Robertson,
P. R. Hill and Barry Pless.
Residents described it as
“‘vicious, aggressive and
dangerous.”
Deputies Hill and Pless
“properly terminated and
disposed (of the dog) at the
’copdnty landfill,” reports
said.
