garticismte in the annual spring
S pecia Olym&ics (GGames next
Wednesday, March 25, begin
ning at 9 a.m. at the Chattooga
High football field. Special
ceremonies will highlight the
opening and closing of the
games.
A number of local
businesses and orianizations is
contributing to the event.
Students will compete in
the following events: standing
long jump, softball throw, 50
meter dash, 100 meter dash,
400 meter relay. Lunch will be
served at the stadium follow
ing closing ceremonies. The
games are open to the public.

There will be a general
membership meeting of
Trion Golf Club at 7 p.m.
next Monday at Trion Golf
Course.
A brief meeting with
league team captains will
follow the general meeting.
Turkey Season
Turkey season will open in
the Chattooga County area and
statewide Saturday.
The area has been well
stocked with wild turkeys dur
ing the last several years with
flocks having been set free in
the eastern and southern more
mountainous sections of the
county, according to officials
with the Georgia Department
of Natural Resources.
Series Continues
A revival continues in pro
gress this week at Mt. Zion In
dxelpendent Church, Rinehart,
Ala.
Services will begin at 6:30
p.m. each day. The Rev. Dan
Kirkpatrick is the visiting
evangelist. The public is
invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Jones
of Smyrna announce the birth
of their son, Jacob Michael, on
March 11. Jake is the grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. R. W]a\l}}fne
Gilmer and Mr. and Mrs.
Heyward Jones all of Smyrna.

The Trion High School ten
nis team will begin its 1987
season at 4 p.m. next Wednes
day, March 25, in a home game
against Armuchee.
This year's team will be
coached by J. W, Greenwood,
in his first season as coach.
Eight girls and seven boys will
make up this year's squad.
““We only have two seniors on
the team, one boy and one
girl,”” Greenwood said. ‘“Most

Tennis Match

The Chattooga High School
tennis team began its season
early, defeating Rossville at
home Monday afternoon. The
match had originally been
slated for next month, but
because of some confusion in
the schedules, it was played
early. Chattooga won, 9-0.
At the start of the game,
top-ranked Jeff Weaver beat
Ben Temko in a short contest,
8-0. Clarke Hair of Chattooga
downed Daniel Morton, 8-4, in
the second match, and Michael
Chastain defeated Daniel Cross
by the same score.
Jay Willingham won over
Brent Lee 8-1; Jimmy Oxford
and Heath Mitchell beat Terry
Watson and Kelly Wagner,
respectively, each by a score of
8-6.
Lady Indians
Down Rossville

The Chattooga High School
girls tennis team started the
season with a win, downing the
Rossville girls last Monday at
home, 8-1. The match was
changed from next month to
last Monday because of some
confusion in scheduling.
In singles, Ellen Thompson
won ggajnst Rhonda Hicks,
8-2. Second-ranked Sherry
Dukes defeated Vada Wright
in the second match, 8-0, and
Kim Windle claimed a victory
over Liz McLaughlin, 8-4.
Tonya Hill won over Angie
Dawson, 8-6; Patricia Crowe
provided Chattooga with its
only loss for the day, being
defeated 6-4 by Pam North,
Rossville’s second-seated
player. Heather Hall downed
Genny Robertson, 8-1, and
Amanda Park’s 6-1 exhibition
of the group are sophomores
and juniors, although we do
have one freshman girl.”
Greenwood also said that
Bart Huskey and Angela
Owens, both seniors, are the
top-ranked plagers.
“We should have a good
boys team this year,” he add
ed. ‘“‘However, I think our girls
will have a rebuilding season,
because, as I said, we only have
one senior girl. They probably
