Recent rains scoured County Road 249 off
North Shinbone Road down to the
bedrock in places, The News' Bridge and
Road Patrol found. Chattooga County
work crews patched potholes along the
circular road but this section along one
shoulder was left alone. Thin fragments
of pavement are visible in places along the
Library

Set Meet
The Friends of Chat
tooga County Library will
meet at the Library at 4
p.m. next Tuesday.
Constitutions and by
laws will be approved at
this time along with
discussion of a member
ship drive and possible
fund-raising projects.

Hair Slates CVAPDC Talk
Will Hair, a past president
of the Chattooga County
Chamber of Commerce, will be
one of the speakers at this mor
nin%'s meeting of the Coosa
Valley Area Planning and
Development Commission
(CVAPDC).
The session will be held at
the Rome Downtown Holiday
Inn.
Hair, a member of the
Coosa Valley Private Industry
Council who refifesents Chat
tooga, will give his perceptions
of the job training program.
About 650 people in the Coosa
Valley area have received job
training through the program
during the last six months, the
CVAPDC said.
Economic development
issues affecting the region also
will be discussed at this morn
ing's meeting.
Pennville Singing
A singing will be held at 7
p.m. Saturday at Pennville
Gospel Tabernacle.
New Grace will be the
featured singing group.

Toll-Free

Tax Line
There is some good news for
taxp?'ers in Chattooga Coun
ty and Georgia. Taxpayers can
now look forward to more of an
opportunity to call the IRS for
answers to their tax questions.
“Our toll-free tax assistance
telephone system will now be
open each Saturd‘:}y until April
15," stated Paul Williams, &S
District director in Atlanta.
The telephone tax
assistance is available from 8
a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday. The
telephone service now will also
be available on Saturday from
9 am, until 2 p.m. This will
give taxpayers working on
their tax returns over a
weekend the opportunity to get
any questions answered.
The telephone number for
tax assistance is
1-800-424-1040.

Benefit Game For Kidney Foundation
A benefit basketball game for the Kidne‘\;
Foundation will be played at 7 p.m. Marc
27 at the Summerville Recreation Center.
Teams from Jordan Gas Co. and WSAF
Radio will compete, with all Froceeds to
go to the local Kidney Foundation

of weeks, according to Phil Na
tions, manager.
Two entry areas are being
built into the wall separating
the current (tmrters R‘om the
old H&M Wholesale building
next door, making available
6,000 s:fuurv feet more in fur
niture display space, Nations
said.
The store now has 8,050
square feet on both levels, he
said, while the new addition
will provide over 14,000 square
feet of space for the entire
store.
The addition will allow the
store to offer more lines of fur
niture and additional pieces,
expanding all departments of
the business, the store
manager said.
