Expansion Plans

The Lyerly Town Council
formally adopted documents
finalizing arrangements for the
town's proposed $462,000
water efi)ansxon project during
a special called meeting at 1
p.m. Monday.
The city will make interim
loan arrangements with a local
bank while the Farmers Home
Administration (FmHA) pro
cesses the $462,000 loan. ‘;‘he
loan will be processed at the
best available interest rate for
a 40-year payback, according
to FmHA officials.
Project engineer Eddie
Schrock of Williams, Sweitzer
and Barnum, Rome, along with
Joiner Smith of the FmHA,
and town attorney Ed Surles,
reviewed the letter of condi
tions with the Council before
the agreement was executed.
Four Hurt
°
In Mishaps
Four people were injured in
three separate traffic accidents
in Summerville during the past
week.
Two were hurt in a two
vehicle accident on Lyerly
Highway just south of its in
tersection with Rome
Boulevard Sunday afternoon,
said officer Charles Owens.
They were identified as
drivers of the vehicles: Karen
Ivey, 28, 1031 Maplewood Cir.,
Summerville, and %erry Michel
Slayton, 1614 Ridgeland Dr.,
Trion.
One person was also injured
in .an accident on the parking
lot of George's Kwik IS)ervice.
Highland S%feet at Commerce
Street, last Friday, said officer
Owens.
She was identified as
Teresa Adams, 4 West Seventh
Ave., Summerville.
Reports said a vehicle
driven by Janice Johnson, 23,
struck a pipe protecting the
fiaspline pumps at the
usiness.
One person was hurt in a
two-vehicle mishap on Com
merce Street at Highland
Street last Thursday, Sept. 17,
said officer Gary Ford.
A vehicle driven by R. B.
Timmons, 65, 809 Highland
St., was involved in a collision
with a vehicle driven by Linda
Sue Roulane, 34, Summerville
Rte. 2.
Ms. Roulane complained of
injuries from the accident, said
officer Ford.

Authority
Sets Meet
On Monday
The Chattooga County
Hospital Authority will meet
at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the
hospital.
The panel is expected to
discuss its plans to expand Oak
View Nursing Home and the
status of its loan application to
the Farmers Home Ad
ministration (FmHA).
It is also expected to
discuss its current contest to
rename the hospital and nurs
ing home.
Fair Exhibitors
The Coosa Valley Fair was
to continue today in Rome.
Several Chattooga County 4-H
Club members and Future
Farmers of America were
scheduled to enter exhibits in
the regional fair.

CONDITIONS
The letter listed conditions
for the water expansion pro
ject, method of financing, and
scope of service.
According to Mayor Danny
Wyatt, some 100 additional
persons have applied for water
extensions on lines east and
west of Lyerly and will be in
corporated into the expansion
plan. Each residence will be
charged a S2OO cut-in and
water meter fee.
The 74-item checklist re
quired by FmHA for the pro
ject stipulates that the town
must employ a certified water
superintendent, utilize FmHA
and Workmen's Compensation
insurance and %ive minority
and women's businesses a
chance to bid on subcontrac
ting jobs in the construction
project.
UNANIMOUS
Wyatt and Council
members Steve White, Ann
Jackson, Billy Stallings and
William ‘‘Fuzz’’ Anderson
voted unanimously to accept
the letter of conditions. City
Clerk Gwen Bentley and Surles
were required to certify the
document. Councilman Joe
Pullen was absent.
A new 150,000 water
storage tank, a new well, and
additional water lines will allow
the town to provide increased
water pressure to its present
customers and new service to
outlying areas. The Council is
expected to advertise for bids
on the project within the next
few weeks.
