IN CHATTOOGA
Fewer Jobless
Checks Written
Fewer checks were written
to unemployed Chattooga
Countians in August than in
July, according to the Georgia
Department of Labor. The
August figure was about half
that of August, 1986.
John Ard with the Labor
Department said 413 checks
valued at $47,552 were written
in August, compared with 444
checks valued at $48,727 writ
ten in July. A total of 761
checks valued at $80,964 was
written in August, 1986, Ard
said.
However, the claim load for
the county was up slightly in
August from July, he added. A
total of 106 claims was filed in
August compared with 101 in
July.
INCREASE
Most of the increase took
place in non-durable manufac
turing, which increased from
30 to 41 claims. Of that total,
textile-related claims increased
from 20 to 27 and apparel
claims jumped from three to
five. There was also a slight in
crease in the rubber industry,
from seven to nine.
There was a decrease in con
struction claims from 22 to 17
and in durable manufacturing
from nine to seven.
The wholesale and retail
trade industry showed a slight
increase from 10 to 13 while the
service industry declined
slightly from 24 to 22.

No Plans For
New Cable TV

Colo., told The News Tuesday
that the recent legal advertise

and K}gL Sub. II Inc., both of
Houston, Texas, was to put the
trade names, Paragon Cable
and Paragon Communications,
on recorg so that if the firm
bought the local cable televi

The Labor Department also
wrote 20,000 fewer unemploy

easily be changed to Paragon.
ATC owns 50 percent of
Paragon while the two related
Houston firms own 25 percent

They said in the ad that
Paragon “intends conducting a
business in the state of
Georgia, County of Chattooga,
under the trade names:
Paragon Communications do

and that the type of business
to be conducte(f is the owner

Ms. Barnes said ATC and
Paragon have no intention of
starting a new cable system in
Chattooga. If the firm ever
does ana/ business in the state,
it would involve the purchase
of existing systems, she
indicated.
