Rossville Uses Three Turnovers
To Defeat Chattooga, 21-0 Friday
Turnovers afain proved to
be the downfall of the Chat
tool?a Indians as the Rossville
Bulldogs last Friday night
turned two fumbles and an in
terception into three
touchdowns to beat the Chat
tooga Indians, 21-0. The three
scoring drives after the tur
novers were for eight yards, 11
yards and 55 yards.
Offensively the Indians
couldn't move the pigskin

The Chattooga County
Junior Varsity lost to the Chat
tanooga Valley Eagles, 8-7 last
Thursday at the Eagles’ home
field. Tfile Eagles scored a
touchdown and a 2-point con
version with 1:11 left in the
game to win.

The Indians starteg the

the Indians only allowed the
Rossville squad 34 total yards,
24 of which came on passes.
As in all the earlier fiumes
of the young season, the In-
Chattooga squad backed up
deep in their own territory,
starting their first drive at the
15. They managed to move two
vards before having to punt. A
23-yard punt put the Eagles in
business at the Chattooga 40.
Three plays later they were still
at the 40 and were forced to

cond half kickoff and drove

yards and the ball on downs.
The next time the Eagles
had the ball they drove to the
Indian 22 before losing the ball
on an interception Ey Chad
Gann.
This Warrior possession
resulted in the Warriors only
serious drive of the first half.
They promptly drove to the
Eagles 30 before losing the ball
on downs. Big plays in the
drive were a couple of 10-yard
gains by Jared Hosmer and a
15-yard penalty against the
Eagles.
The second half started
pretty much as the first half
endeg with neither team being
able to move the pigskin. The
Warriors got a bxriefg taste of a
scoring o(i)portunit{ when they
recovered a fumbled punt at
their own 48. They drove to the
Eagle 39 before losing the ball
on an interception.
With around 5 minutes left
in the game and with the
Eagles having a first down at
their own 38, their (Al;arterback
went back to pass, dropped the
ball and Warrior Jamie Tid
more picked it up and scooted
down to the 3 where he was
tackled. On first down from
there Jared Hosmer kept the
ball and scored with 4:24 left in
the iame. Adam Hankins kick
ed the PAT and the Warriors
led 7-0.
The Eagles weren't through
though, as they put the winn
ing drive in motion at their own
38. On first down a running
play gained 9 to the 47. On the
next play a short pass turned
into a big gainer as the end
dropped the ball and after a
mag scramble and another
Eagles picking the ball ug and
fumbling, the play turned into
a 32 yard gain for the Eagles.
From the Warrior 21 the
Eagles drove the distance in
four plays. The Warriors were
also penalized two times the
last 21 yards. The scoring play
came on a 7-yard pass. The
Eagles decided to go for the
two-point conversion and were
successful as the quarterback
rolled right and hit an end in
the end zone for the two points.
The scoreboard showed
1:11 left in the game and the
Warriors were determined to
try to put to%‘ether another
drive to win. They took the
kickoff and returned it to the
37. After a 15-yard penalty put
the ball at the 50 Jared Hosmer
hit Mark Benedict with a 15
yard pass to the Eagle 35. On
the fo?lowin%lay_ an Eagle in
tercepted a Warrior pass and
returned it for a touchdown,
but it was called back for pass
interference and that gave the
Warriors the ball at the Eagle
20. Time had expired on the
touchdown run so the Warriors
lined up for a 37-yard field goal
which was blocked.

The Indians took over at
the two and drove to the 13
where they garnered a first
down. Then tragedy struck
again, as the ball came loose
from an Indian back with the
Bulldogs recovering at the In
dian 11. From there it was one
play and a score as Turner
skirted right end again for the
11 yards and paydirt. The pass
for the two point conversion
was good as Grady Kincer hit
Chris Clemmons for the points.
With 3:35 left in the third
quarter Rossville stood 14-0.
On the ensuing kickoff the
Indians started moving the
ball, with a 10-yard gain by
Bernie Evans and an eight
yard pass from Corey Perry to
Ken West. But as was he case
in the whole gain the Indians
turned the ba%l over this time
on an interception at the
Rossville 45. It took the
Bulldogs 10 plays with James
Turner scoring his third
touchdown of the night on an
18-yard scamper for the final
touchdown. q‘ommy Shrop
shire added the PAT and the
score stood, 21-0.
Leading the Indians' on
defense were Tim Edwards,
Brian West, Michael Hum
phrey and Andre Stewart.
’l{ne Indians host the Fort
Payne Wildcats this Friday
night at the Little Big Horn.
The game will be the Indians’
homecoming festivities.
