DEATHS
Minervia Bruce
Mrs. Minervia Jane
Calhoun Bruce, 83, Trion Rte.
2, Welcome Hill Community,
died at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 24 at
her residence.
She was born in Bartow
County on July 16, 1904,
daughter of the late Sam
Adams and Ida Potts Adams.
She was a retired textile
worker and a member of
Ridgeway Baptist Church.
urviving are her widower,
Guy Bruce, Trion; one son,
Rogert Calhoun, Gaylesville,
Ala.; four stepsons, Roy Bruce,
Leesburg, Ala, Ruel Bruce,
R% Bruce and Guy Bruce Jr.,
LaFayette; four sisters, Mrs.
Dora Brown, Mrs. Clora
Adams, Mrs. Octavia Little
john and Mrs. Huttie Scott,
LaFayette; three brothers,
Lonnie Adams, Adairsville,
Joel Adams and G. S. Adams,
Trion; seven grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; eight
great-great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Ridgeway Baptist Church with
the Revs. Larry Davis and
A. C. Davis officiating.
Interment was in Ridgeway
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were
the Adult Sunday School class
of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

Rte. 4, died at 9:50 a.m. Friday
at her residence.
Her brother, Joseph Wayne
Cordell, and her great
grandfather, Andrew Weaver,
died earlier.
Survivors include her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Cordell, LaFayette; one sister,

Ayers Joseph Jones, 80,
2810 Fort Payne Highway,
Scottsboro, Ala., a former resi
dent of Chattooga County died
Sept. 26 at his residence.
He was born in Walker
County on June 18, 1907, son
of the late Aquilla Jones and
Laura Stanfield Jones. Mr.
Jones was a retired textile
worker and a member of the
Church of God of Union
Assembly.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Opal Jones, Scottsboro;
three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn
Louise Haney, Cartersvil{e.
Mrs. Hazel Tanner, Sanger,
Texas, Mrs. Mildred Haney,
Smyrna; two sons, Melvin
Jones, Homestead, Fla., and
Doyle Jones, Summerville; two
stc:f)daughters, Mrs. Jamie Lou
Wilhelm, Scottsboro, Ala., and
Mrs. Carolyn Cookston,
Albertville, AYa.; one stepson,
Alton Carter, Scottsboro; one
sister, Mrs. Edna Jackson,

at 2 p.m. Monday in the
Churcg of God of Union
Assembly with Revs. Jessie F.
Pratt Jr., Charles F. Pratt,
Paul Thomas Hughes and Den
nis Smith officiating.
Interment was in Green
Hills Memory Garden.

Mrs. Bertie Mason, 96,
Summerville Rte. 3, died Mon
day night in Oak View Nursing
Home.
She was born on Sept. 8
1891, daughter of the lase Ed
Cordle and Melissia Funder
burk Cordle. Mrs. Mason was
a retired textile worker and a
member of the Trion First Bap
tist Church. A son, Albert
Mason, died on Aug. 9, 1942,
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Florence Eaton, Summer
ville Rte. 3; one granddaughter,
Mrs. Sherry Harris, Cleveland,
Tenn.; two grandsons, David
Eaton, Cedar Burr, Wis.,
Johnny Eaton, Snellville; two
great-granddaughters; and one
great-grandson,
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the
Trion First Baptist Church
with the Rev. Jim Cordell
officiating.
Interment was in Green
Hills Memory Garden.
Active pallbearers were
Harold Pickle, Joe Sgeer.

Chuck Mock Sr.
Charles W. ““Chuck’ Mock
Sr., 59, Summerville Rte. 1,
passed away Sept. 23 in a
Rome hospital.
Mr. Mock was born in Loui
siana on Sept. 11, 1928. He was
a Veteran of World War 111, ser
ving in the U. S. Air Force and
was a self-employed salesman.
Surviving are his widow,
Thompson, Carol Bardwell, Pat Kirby,
Wayne Bardwell, Hugh Teague, Charles
Brooks, Carla Maxwell, Charlie Hogue,
Patricia Waters, Howard Hawkins and
Daril Price, director of the agency. (Staff

Roy 1. Orr
Roy T. Orr, 78, 226 Pine St.,
Trion, died Sept. 24 in Oak
View Nursing lPlome.
Mr. Orr was born in Chat
tooga County on June 5, 1909
son of the late Charlie and
Alice Johnston Orr. He was a
member of the Trion United
Methodist Church and was
retired from the spinning room
of Riegel Textile gorp. after 43
ears of service. A sister, Doris
{‘ong. and a brother, Raymond
Orr, died in 1970.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Nora Crane Orr; one
daughter, Mrs. Wanda Blalock,
Trion; grandson, Joshua
Blalock, Trion; several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel
of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home
with the Revs. Harvey Boyd
and Charles Keith officiating.
Interment was in West Hill
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Hoyt Vines, Jim Miller, Dr.
Gary Smith, Ralph Ward,
Ralph Cowart and J. P. Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were
members of the Riegel %uarter
Century Club and members of
the AA.
Bids were opened last
Thursday.
One truck was bought from
Lee Smith Inc., Chattanooga,
Tenn.,, and the other was
bought from Airport Ford,
Atlanta. Two bids were receiv
ed on each of the vehicles and
Powell approved the low bid in
each case.
Airport Ford submitted a
low bicf)of $19,290 for an F-700
cab and chassis with a dump
box bed. Lee Smith had sub
mitted a bid of $19,976 on the
same 153-inch wheel base
truck.
However, Smith Ford sub
mitted a low bid of $17,680.97
for an F-800 truck while Air
port Ford submitted a bid of
$20,783. Powell accepted the
Smith Ford bid.
Two Students
Earn Degrees
Jeff George Hall, Trion, and
Melanie Dawn Rounsaville,
Summerville, completed re
%xirements for their degrees at
the end of the summer quarter
at the University of Georgia.
Hall received his bachelor of
science in pharmacy degree
while Ms. Rounsaville received
her bachelor of science degree.
They will be eligible to par
ticipate in_ graduation
ceremonies in June, 1988.
