PFC Charles (Chuck) E.
Thompson were married Sept.
13 at Shelsea Baptist Church.
The Rev. G. W. Rosson per
formed the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Stowe
of Summerville. She is the
granddaughter of Paul and
Mildred Cooper, Summerville
and the late Rev. Pal Stowe of
Franklin County. She is the
sister of Teresa Hammons and

of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E.
Thompson, Summerville. He is
the grandson of Lorene and
Edward McGuire, Summer
ville, and O. W. Thompson,
Beckley, W. Va., Helen Purcell,
Summerville and Milburn
Teems, Macon. He has one
brother, Chad Thompson.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. Mrs. Jackie
Sammons served as matron of
honor. Thomas Flood Jr. serv
ed as best man.
The couple will reside in
Camp Lejeune, N. C., where
PFC Thompson is stationed
with the United States Marine
Corps.
Fall Trip Set
A few spaces are left for a
four-day fall trip to colonial
Williamsburg on Oct. 22-25,
sponsored by Berry College. It
will include breakfast and din
ner daily and round-trip
transportation from Rome. For

Taylor-Bryant Vows At Lyerly Baptist
Miss Ella Diane Taylor and
James Alan Bryant were mar
ried on Aug. 22 at Lyerly First
Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim
my Bryant, father of the
groom, performed the double
ring ceremony.
Miss Taylor is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James L.
Taylor, Lyerly. The parents of
the bridegroom are the Rev.
'and Mrs. Jimmy Bryant,
- Summerville.
The ceremony was perform
ed before an al);;ar decorated
with a heart-shaped candelabra
containin%yellow tapers, ac
cented with ivy, centered with
a large arrangement of yellow
roses, white daisies and baby’s
breath. It was flanked by two
spiral candelabra draped in ivy,
holding yellow tapers. Two
baskets of yellow roses, white
daisies andy eucalyptus placed
in wicker stands aYso decorated
the altar. Boston ferns were
also used in the decorations.
A prayer bench was
decorated with white daisies
and yellow ribbon. Family
gews were marked with yellow
ows, daisies, springarie ivy
and baby’s breath. l%urricane
globes with yellow tapers, ivy,
and baby's breath were placed
in each window. Large, yellow
bows were places at the
entrance.
Mrs. Lisa Davis attended
the bride's registry and
distributed wedfing scrolls.
The round table in the
vestibule of the church was
covered with a yellow cloth
with a white lace overlay, ac
cented with a clear bud vase
containing daisies and baby's
breath.
Mrs. Karen Gaines, pianist,
and Mrs. Juanita Bryant pro
vided a Nf)rogram of mgytial
music. Mr. and Mrs. Scott
Brown sang, “‘Just You and I,”
prior to the ceremony. They
also sang, “Only God Could
Love You More.”” Mrs. Teresia
Hall, aunt of the bride, sang,
“Flesh of My Flesh’ after the
exchanging of vows. She also
sang “‘The Wedding Prayer,”
as the cougle knelt at the
prayer bench.
Miss Paula Ward, Menlo,
was the maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss Keely
Hunter, Miss Amy Hix, cousin
of the bride; andy Miss Chris
Hall, cousin of the bride. They
wore tea length maize dresses
of bridal taffeta featuring puff
ed sleeves, V-style back and
bows on the shoulders.
The maid of honor carried a
nosegay of yellow rosebuds,
miniature white daisies and
yellow lace streamers. The
bridesmaids carried nosegays
of yellow rosebuds, miniature
white daisies and white lace
streamers.
Mike Bryant, brother of the
groom, was best man.
Groomsmen were Tommy
Cargle, Scott Brown and Greg
Taylor, brother of the bride.
Cliff Ratliff and Kelly Hall,
both cousins of the brid’tla, serv
ed as candlelighters. They wore
tuxedos of black pants and
coats with maize cummer
bunds and bow-ties.
The flowergirl was Miss
Bridgett Berry, cousin of the
bride. She wore a dress iden
tical to the bridesmaids and
carried a white wicker basket
filled with daisy petals.
The ringbearer was Lee
Veatch, cousin of the bride. He
was dressed identical to the
groomsmen and carried a ring
pillow overlayed and trimmed
in yellow lace. ;
The bride was escorted by
her father and entrusted to the
groom by her parents. She
wore a formal gown of white
tissue taffeta featuring a
Queen Ann neckline and a fit
ted bodice of re-embroidered
Chantilly, trimmed with se
quins and seed pearls. English
net formed Juliet puff sleeves
trimmed with Venice appli
ques. The skirt extended into
a cathedral length train
scalloped with lace appliques.
She wore a floral headpiece
with silk flowers and pearl
sprays. The two-tier fingerti
length veil featured pearls, rolfi
ed edge and pouf.
The bride carried a cascade
of yellow silk rosebuds, white
daisies, baby's breath and ivy
embellished with pearls
cascading with white lace
streamers. She also carried a

Wedding Deadline
Articles about weddings that occurred more than two
weeks ago will not be accepted for publication after noon
next Tuesday.
The News began advertising the new deadline a month
ago, to become effective today. However, because the
newspaper's social news deadline is noon each Tuesday for
that week's edition, couples will actually have about two
and one-half weeks to turn in wedding information.
For example, if a couple weds Saturday, they will have
until noon Tuesday, Oct. 20, to submit their wedding arti
cle to the newspaper.

Color fest
At Mentone
An October **Colorfest’ will
be held at Mentone, Ala., on
Oct. 16, 17 and 18.
It will begin at 6:30 p.m. on
Oct. 16. The festival on Oct. 17
will be held from 9 am. to 5
p-m. and the Oct. 18 event will
begin at noon and end at 5 p.m.
It will be held at ‘‘Ground
Hog Run” and will feature
food, drinks, music and enter
tainment, as well as boat rides
and crafts. A marshmallow
roast and costume contest will
be held on Oct. 16.
Knitting Class
Knitting classes will begin
at 10 a.m. next Wednesday,
Oct. 7, at the Summerville
Recreation Center.
The first meeting will
feature a pot luck dinner at
11:30 a.m., said Sue Spivey,
coordinator. The class will last
from 10 a.m. to noon.

Immediately following the
ceremony, the bride's parents
were hosts to a reception
honoring the bride and groom.
The focal point of the reception
featured a three-tiered light
ville. She is the granddaughter
of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Steele,
LaFayette, Mrs. Mildred
Haynes, Red Bank, Tenn., Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas M. Basham,
Chickamauga.
The groom is the son of
Melba Stoker, Scottsboro,
Ala., and Vernon Stoker, Ken
sington. He is the grandson of
D. F. Norman, Chickamauga,
and the late Mollie Norman;
Mrs. Sara Stoker, Kensington,
and the late R. L. Stoker.
Ms. Basham is a 1985
graduate of Chattooga High
School.
The wedding will be held at
3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the home of
Ms. Basham's parents. All
family and friends are invited.

The groom's table featured
red rover mums and yellow
daisies arranged in a work boot
belonging to the groom. The
groom's cake was a large
chocolate mound cake topped
with strawberries.
Also served were sausage
balls, cheese molds, pecan san
dies, chicken salad and pimien
to cheese sandwiches, nuts,
mints, M&M'’s, date nut balls,
lime sherbert punch and a large
melon basket filled with melon
balls and surrounded by fruit.
Reception hostesses were
Mrs. Brenda Ratliff, Mrs.
Teresia Hall, Mrs. Jamie
Taylor, Mrs. Beverly Veatch,
all aunts of the bride; and Mrs.
Beatrice Taylor, grandmother
of the brid}t’e. Nancy Brown
served as the co-hostess.
Assisting in serving were

Parks, Kim Whitaker, Kim
Winters and Stephanie
Wooten.
Birdseed bags were
distributed by Misses
Elizabeth Veatch, Whitne

cousins of the bride.
The wedding was directed
by Mrs. Calla Mae Bryant.
The mother of the groom,
Mrs. Esther Bryant, and Mrs.
Annette Sentell, Mrs. Jean
Swanson and Mrs. Molee
Miller entertained the wedding
party with the rehearsal dinner
at the fellowship hall of the
Lyerly First Baptist Church.
The Fellowship Hall was
decorated with fresh cut floral
arrangements made by Mrs.
Jean Swanson on each table.
Large ferns also adorned the
fellowship hall.
The menu consisted of broc
coli casserole, stuffed potatoes,
chicken casserole, congealed
salad, rolls and ices tea.
Chocolate cake was served for
dessert.
After the wedding trip to
Gatlinburg, they now resi(i)e in
Lyerly.
COMPLIMENTS
The tellers from Farmers
and Merchants Bank entertain
ed the bride and her mother
with dinner at The Lookout
Restaurant on July 14. They
presented the bride vzith a gift.

with a miscellaneous shower on
July 19 with Miss Amy Hix,
Mrs. Linda Hix, Mrs. Brenda
Ratliff, Mrs. Teresia Hall, Mrs.

shower was held at thé home of
Mrs. Beatrice Taylor, grand
mother of the bride.

Celebrates 25th
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Duane Jackson, Lyerly,
celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday,
Sept. 16, with a dinner and reception given by their
children at The Round Table. Hosting the event were
Tracey Jackson, Scott Jackson and his wife, Tammy;
and Barry Jackson and his wife, Darlene. Grandchildren
and other family members also attended.
