Parenting Program At Hospital
A parenting program, bas
ed on award-winning educator
Ruth Bowdoin's method, will
be sl?onsored bz; the Redmond
Park Wellness Center this fall.
The program will begin with a
free introductory meeting from
7 to 8:30 p.m. next Tuesday in
the hospital's first floor
classroom. The class will then
be held on the next four Tues
day evenings, concluding on
Nov. 3.
Instructors for the program
will be Dr. Steve Davis, a
clinical psychologist who prac
tices in Rome, and Cindy
Holton, who has a master’s
degree in counseling.
The program, which em
phasizes the importance of the
child’s first years, is designed

Parker-Elrod Wedding Held
Miss Lee Michelle Parker
and William Randall Elrod
were married at 6:30 p.m. Aug.
15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Selman Fisher, 101 River
side Dr., Summerville. The
Rev. Gleason Maxwell
officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Roy E. and Ann garker.
Gaylesville, Ala. The groom's
fiarents are Mr. and Mrs.
obert Lee Elrod,
Summerville.
The double-ring ceremony
was performed on the front
?ortico area of the home. The
ront doors of the home were
adorned with powder white
vine baskets holding sprays of
alstromeria, gerbera daisies, fu
ji mums, lilies, baby's breath
and fern, and tied with pink
satin bows. The doors were
flanked with stands draped in
white crefie de chine and tied
with pink satin bows and
streamers. A pair of antique
brass five branch candelabra,
which once adorned the halls of
a Hudson River Mansion, held
pink tapers. Victorian palms
and spathyghilium completed
the scene. The walkway was
lined with Boston ferns. For
the ceremony the front doors
were opened to reveal another
brass candelabra which served
as a backdrop for a Mass
English styl% design of
Ger%)era daisies, alstromeria,
lilies, Fuji mums stock, mini
carnation, Boston and leather
leaf ferns and baby's breath in
a jardiniere of gofii leaf.
The wedding music was
presented by Mrs. Jerry
Prince.
She played selections which
included “Trumpets Volun
tary’ as the processional and
“The Wedding March” as the
recessional.
The bride descended from
the spiral stairway escorted by
her father to the portico area
and given in marriage by her
parents. She chose a Bianchi
original gown of ivory silk taf
feta, designed with a fitted
bodice accented with Jacquard
brocaded leaves which adorned
the puffed sleeves and flowing
skirt which extended to a
chapel length train. Her finger
tip veil of silk illusion was held
by a band of seeded pearls,
rf{inestone and brocaded%eaves
and centered with a tear drop
pearl, lilies of the valley draped
to one side.
She carried a cascade of
calla lilies, white roses,
stephanotis, cymbidium or
chigs. baby’s breath and ivy
surrounded the bouquet and
fell to the length of the gown.
The bride also carried a small

The bride presented the
groom with her grandfather’s
wedding ring, the late Roy Lee
Parker.
Miss Parker chose Shirley
Denise Fisher as her maid of
honor. Her dress was an
original design cachet by Bari
Protas of ivory brocade lace.
The princess bodice featured a
portrait neckline, outlined with
appliqued lace. The tier skirt
extended into tealength. Miss
Fisher chose a pair o% brocade
pink slippers belonging to her
grandmother. She carried a
bouquet of pink cymbidium or
chids, magnolia leaves and
baby's breath and centered
with an ivory lace bow.
Mr. Elrod chose Mark Ray
Fisher as his best man. Usher
groomsmen were his brother,
Dennis Elrod, and Mark Hogg.
The groom and his atten
dants were dressed in formal
black tuxedos with pleated
ivory shirts, black cummer
bund and tie.
The bride's mother wore a
mauve chiffon tea length dress
with satin cummerbund and
cuffs. Her corsage was an ivory
cymbidium orchid. Mrs. Elrod,
mother of the groom, chose a
tea length mint green dress
with satin tie and cuffs. Her
corsage was also an ivory cym
bidium orchid.
The bride’s grandmothers,
Mrs. Jessie Jackson and Mrs.
Addie Bea Parker; and great
grandmother, Alma Mosely,
wore ivory orchid corsages.
The groom's grandmother,
Mrs. Bernice Inman, selected
an ivory orchid corsage. Seated
as honored guests of the bride
and groom were Miss Franki
Fisher and her father, Tom S.
Fisher.
After the ceremony, guests
were invited to a poolside
reception given by the bride's
parents, where they were
relgistered by Mrs. Dennis
Elrod, sister-in-law of the
groom. The table was covered
with a rose cloth and lace
overlay. A silver vase held an
arrangement of fresh flowers.
The bride’'s table was
covered in rose bouffant and an
overlay of Nottingham lace.
The three-tiered wedding cake
was of the Lady Windemere
design with a mass base flower
arrangement of ivory flowers.
Tall Grecian columns
se;f(arated the tiers, and the
cake was topped with a
miniature bride's bouquet. A
silver candlestick was placed to
one side of the cake. ¥he cake
was served by Mrs. Lynn
Adair, cousin of the bride.
- The hors d'oeuvre table was
enhanced by a five branch
silver candelabra holding pink
tapers and an epergne gesign
of lilies, gerbera daisies, Fuji
mums, ivy and leather leaf
ferns.
On one end of the table was
a fruit basket filled with can
taloupe, watermelon, strawber
ries and honeydew melon.
Fresh fruit punch was ladl
ed from a silver punch bowl
from the other side. Silver
trays laced with ivy held
shrimp, spinach sandwiches,
chicken puffs, cheese wafers
and sausage balls.
Another table was centered
with a massive fruit arrange
ment of grapes, pineapple, can
taloupe, strawberries and ac
cented with baby's breath.
Also on the table were different
cheeses, nuts and mints.
The champagne table
featured a design o%fresh fruit,
ivy,'Fuji mums, leatherleaf and
baby’s breath in an oak basket.
'lzhe groom'’s table held a
double-tiered chocolate cake
topped with a crown and sur
rounded with pink carnations
and baby’s breath and grapes
draped to the side and base.
The cake was served by Ms.
Suzanne Bishop, cousin of the
bride. Those assisting in serv
ing were Miss Shirley Jackson,
Miss Allyson Hughes, Miss
Rozlyn Woodard and Miss
Rosanne Woodard.
Floral designs in silver
urns, potted pink mums, ferns
and Victorian palms were plac
ed throughout the area. The
pool was highlighted by
floating floral designs centered
with candles.
“Thank you'' scrolls were
given out by Jeremy Elrod,
nephew of the groom, and Car
son and Jamie Parker, cousins
of the bride. Pink satin
rosebuds in ivory baskets were
given out by Miss Nicole
Bishop, cousin of the bride; and
Miss Franki Fisher.
For her going away outfit
the bride chose a tea len¥th
two-piece of ivory silk. The
groom wore jade green slacks
with an ivory shirt and sport
coat with a jade green silk tie.
Following the recefition. the
couple left for a week's stay in
Las Vegas.
REHEARSAL DINNER
The groom's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Lee Elrod,
entertained the wedding party
at a rehearsal dinner at the
Berryton Church of God
Fellowship Hall Saturday,
Aug. 14. The tables were
draped with white cloths and
ivy trailed the center of each
table joining with candelabras

which held pink tapers and
greenery.
The menu consisted of bak
ed ham, chicken and dressing,
green beans, potato salad, corn,
cranberry sauce and hot but
tered rolls. Dessert consisted of
fresh strawberry pizza and
pecan gie. Assisting in serving
were Sandra Cooper, Harriet
Anglin, Tresa Lee and Lori
Maxwell.
BRIDESMAID BRUNCH
A bridal buffet brunch was
given on Saturday, Aug. 15, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Fisher honoring Miss Parker
and her maid of honor. The
table was drapped with a linen
and lace cloth and centered
with an arrangement of pink
and ivory silk flowers in a
wat,erfor(i' crystal vase. Miss
Parker chose this party to pre
sent Miss Denise I'Eisher with a
crystal and sterling silver
gowder dish and Mrs. Shirley
isher a sterling silver hand
mirror from the *Old Master”
design which is the pattern of
her sterling silver.
She also presented the
Fisher's with a set of mauve
towels with satin and ivory
lace.

Flower Show Set
The annual garden club
flower show, ‘“‘Adventures in
Color,” will open at Chieftains
Museum in Rome, Oct. 7 and 8,
according to Mrs. Moses Brin
son, president of the Rome
Federated Garden Clubs.
The exhibitions and ar
rangements will be on view
from 2 until 8 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 7, and from 10 a.m. until
5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. There
is no admission fee.

compete for the title of
America’s Favorite Pre-Teen.
Winner of the state com
getition will win a fully paid
ight to the national pageant,
the official crown, sash and
other gifts. Girls ages 8 to 12
will compete for these prizes as
well as a SSOO U. S. Savings
Bond. The national pai‘eant
will be held in Orlando, Fla.
