However, the bid accepted
by the commissioner called for
a breakfast cost of $1.90 Fer in
mate and a dinner cost of $2.20
per meal per inmate.
_ The firm said in its bid that
the reason for the increase was
higher food prices.
Some inmates had com

quantity of the meals.
QUANTITY?
Powell asked Lewis Wilson,
jail administrator, if the meals
had improved since the county
had discussed the complaints
with- R&M. Wilson said the
quantity of food had been in

Hart Fined
After Jail
Money Plea
Bill Hart, former ad
ministrator of the Chattooga
County Jail, pled nolo conten
dre (no contest) last Friday to
charfies that he had converted
Floyd County Jail funds to his
own use.
Hart, former sheriff of
Floyd County, entered the plea
before Floyd Superior Court
Judge Robert Walther. The
judge ordered him to repay
$391.89 to Floyd County and
to pay a S4OO fine.
REIMBURSE
Hart, 48, said he had used
funds from a Floyd jail soft
drink vending macKi.ne to reim
burse himself for personal
funds he had used to buy
athletic eti‘uipment for jail in
mates. The charge against
Hart was theft by conversion.
Four checks were involved in
the incident.
Hart said there were no
guidelines on how money from
the vending machine in the
“jail store” was to be used. It
was all used for inmates in the
jail, he said.
Bobby Lee Cook Sr., Sum
merville, represented the
former sheriff in the case. Hart
now serves as jail ad
ministrator in Bartow County
and resides in Floyd.
HIRED
Chattooga Sheriff Gary
McConnell hired Hart in
January, 1985, to serve as jail
administrator. Hart left in
June, 1986 to assume the Bar
tow IV{)osit:ion.
cConnell said this week
that there was no possibility
that Chattooga Jail funds had
been used improperly by Hart
when Hart was the local jail
administrator.
