SECOND PLACE MEDAL GOES TO MISSY BLACKWELL
Terry Adams Gives Award To Trion Student
Freedom Gained
from page 1-B
were many. Hitler's cruelty to
any non-German are particular
ly the Jewish, was genocide.
Millions of prisoners of war
died in concentration camps,
struggling for their freedoms
and their fives — both of which
the infamous tyrant tried to
take. American soldiers gave
their lives to bring freedom, to
these people.
“Freecfom has long since
been a struggle. Many people
have lost their lives in the fight
for freedom, and there are
those who still fight. Freedom
is not easily obtained, and one
must regard it as a privilege
that can be lost.
“What does our freedom
mean today? To many it means
only to d}; the things they
want. But it is more than that,
thanks to the men that drafted
our constitution. Our basic
rights have helped the United
States to become one of the
best for all people. No, we are
neither perfiect nor infallible.
We have made mistakes in
realizing our heritage. But
there is not, nor has there been,
an equal quest for freedom.
Our form o? government is the
Supreme Law of the Land. We,
the people, make our country
what it is today.
TRIBUTE
“This is a tribute to all
prisoners of war. To men who
died for their country, leaving
behind their familes. To men
who fought bravely to the end.
This is to those who returned
to a hostile country. This is to
the famlies of the men who are
missiniin action. We who are
so richly blessed by the
freedom bestowed upon us, ap
?erciate the pain and hard ef
ort of these men and women.
The price they paid has been
costly, and of}t':en times fatal.
But freedom comes only to
those who desire it, who work
hard to secure it, and who risk
their lives to preserve it.
“This is for those who
believed and for those who will.
For these are the Americans
who have gained for us our
most precious heritage,
freedom.”’

is somewhat hard of hearing
but his mind is sharp.
Norton attends and is a
charter member of the Four
Mile Baptist Church, which
was organized about 1900.
“My family's grown and
I'm still a draggin’. But, I'm
not grumbli]r\}g. I thank the
Lord,” said Norton.
“I worked the farm here for
several years. I even mowed
my own yard up until this past
year,” he said.
“POOR AS SNAKE”
Norton told of the time
when oxen were used for
transportation, and for work
ing on farms.- Then came
horses, then tractors. ‘‘Now
I'm as poor as a snake. I don’t
have a horse or even a cat.”
“When television first came
out, I couldn’t believe that it
could work. I still don't know
how it works. It’s a great way
to link up the world.”
“We really accomplished
something when we sent a man
to the moon. I also remember
when the first man, Lindberg,
called the ‘Flying Fool' went
across the ocean,” Norton said.
“In all these years, I've
never been able to see gain in
war. We've lost in wars like
World War I, he asserted.
GHOST TOWN
“I can remember when Ber
ryton was a ghost town. I've
seen a lot of doctors come
through here. There was Doc
tor Ifair who had a small
hospital in Sunmmerville.
There was also a hospital in
