DEATHS
Russell Bynum
Russell E. Bynum, 54, Sum
merville Rte. 5, Back Berryton
Road, died last Friday nigg;t in
a Rome hospital following an
extended illness.
Mr. Bynum was born in
Chattooga County on March
18, 1933, son of the late Bruce
and Velma McGraw Bynum.
He attended the Berryton
Church of God, was a veteran
of Korea, serving in the U. S.
Air Force, and was employed
by Harriet & Henderson Mills.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Jean Bynum; three sons,
Mike Bynum and Robert
Bynum, Fort Worth, Texas,
and Bruce Bynum, Atlanta;
three sisters, Louise Ivey,
Ellen Wilson and Betty
Shireman, Summerville; one
brother, James A. Bynum, An
napolis, Md.; two grand
daughters; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel
of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home
with the Rev. Gleason Maxwell
officiating.
Interment was in Summer
ville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were

her residence following an ex
tended illness.
Mrs. Crawford was born
Nov. 22, 1903 in Paulding
County, daughter of the late
Snowcf;n Wisner and Kemmer
Cole Wisner. She was a
member of Sunnyside Baptist
Church, LaFayette; and a
housewife.
Survivors include five
daughters, Mrs. Ethel Kerby,
Mrs. Edna Pursley, Mrs.
Estelle Johnson and Mrs. Lin
da Burkhalter, Summerville
and Mrs. Catherine Hawkins,
Cloudland; three sons, Bethel
Gorham and John Gorham,
Summerville, and Garvin
Gorham, Chattanooga, Tenn.;
three sisters, Mrs. Alice Pruitt,
Mrs. Florence Keith and Mrs.
Irene Hodge, Fort Payne, Ala,;
one brother, Clayton Wisner,
Cedar Bluff, Ala.; 13 grand
children and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 24 in Belmont
Baptist Church with the Revs.
W.H. Dean and Mickey
Skates officiating.
Interment was in Summer
ville Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Randy
Keith, Gerald Wisner, Robert
Wisner, Junior Fleming,
Harold Helton and Terry

Reuben Robinson Garrett,
89, 510 South Commerce St.,
Summerville, died Friday, Dec.
25, in Buford.
Mr. Garrett was born in
Chattooga County on April 18,
1898, son of the late Tolliver
and Elsie Talulah Gilreath Gar
rett. He was retired from
Selman Hardware with over 50
_years of service.
Survivors include one son,
Charles S. Garrett, Buford;
daughter-inlaw, Charmet D.
Garrett, Buford; grand
children, Mike S. Garrett,
Buford, Mark O. Garrett,
Marietta; great-grandchildren,
Ansley and Wesley Garrett,
Buford.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hill
Chapel of Lane Funeral Home
with the Rev. Mike Cavin
officiating.
Interment was in Summer
ville Cemetery.

Charlie Waters.

McGuire
Mrs. Mildred Mahalia
McGuire, 57, Summerville Rte.
4, died Dec. 23 in Chattooga
Hospital following a sudden
illness.
Mrs. McGuire was born on
May 24, 1930 in Chattooga
County, daughter of the late
E. R. Tudor and Mamie
Elsberry. She was a member of
Fisher Chapel United
Methodist Church and a
member of the United
Methodist Women's Club. She
was employed by Best
Manufacturing for the past 20
years.
Survivors include her
widower, Gene McGuire; two
sons, Bill and Donnie Smith,
Summerville; three step
daughters, Mrs. Shelia Wat
son, Mrs. Cindy Barnes and
Mrs. Glenda Sel{ Summerville;
one stepson, Billy Ken
McGuire, Summerville; three
sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Townsell,
Ringgold, Mrs. Frances Cargle,
Summerville and Mrs. Winona
Hughes, Summerville; one
brother, J. W. Tudor, Summer
ville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were
held at 11 a.m. Saturday in
Fisher Chapel United
Methdgigt Church with the
Revs. Philip Dorris and Ran
dall Massengill officiating.
Interment was in 'Fisher

William Mathis
William Emory Mathis Sr.,
77, Armuchee Rte. 1, died at
6:09 p.m. Saturday at his
residence following an extend
ed illness.
Mr. Mathis was born July
20, 1910 in Chattooga County,
son of the late James William
Mathis and Hassie Beatrice
Young. He was a member and
chairman of the Board of
Deacons of Little Sand Moun
tain Baptist Church, teacher of
the Men's Bible School Class
for over 50 years, superinten
dent and song director. Mr.
Mathis was a member of Floyd
Springs Masonic Lodge 167,
Low 12 Club, and the Dollar
Club of General Electric. He
was retired from General Elec
tric Co., Rome. Two sisters,
Mrs, Maigie Owings died in
1985 and Lillie Alexander died
in 1979,
Mr, Mathis is survived by
his widow, Mrs. Annie Hughes
Mathis; two daughters, filrs.

athis Tubbs, Vidalia, La.;
two sons, William E. Mathis

juries received in a vehicle
accident.
Mr. Nelson was born on
Nov. 1, 1956 in Chattooga
County. He was an electrician.
Surviving are his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson;

1954. She was a member of

was employed in the Spinning
Department of Mt. Vernon-
Riegel Textile Corp.
