Scholarship Winner
Heather Hall (L) was the recipient of this year’'s Kappa
Kappa lota Scholarship at Cgattooga High's academic
awards ceremony. She was presented the scholarship

CHS Seniors Get Honors;
16 Receive Scholarships

Over $50,000 in scholarship
funds were awarded to Chat
tooia High School seniors last
week. Special achievement
awards were also given out.
Twenty-one seniors were
recognized as honor graduates,
having maintained a 90 or
above average throughout high
school.
Five students received
academic scholarships to at
tend college. Kenny Branmore
received a $5,000 to Berry Col
lege, and Melissa Fox won a
SI,OOO academic grant to Ed
monson Collife. fi:aather Hall
and TammK endrix each won
a SI,OOO scholarship to Shorter
College, and Ellen Thompson
received a special academic
achievement grant from
Rhodes College for $7,200.

Dan Bryan won the
Fieldcrest-Cannon scholarship
of $1,200, and the Grover
Jackson Memorial scholarship
for SI,OOO. Lorie Franklin was
the winner of the renewable
$2,200 Roper Foundation

Thirty-one people were
charged with driving under the
influence of intoxicants (DUI)
during the month of May, ac
cording to the Chattooga Coun
ty Sheriff’s Department.
A 39—year-olg man had been
arrested four times on DUI
charges, and nine times on
other charges. A 35-year-old
man, who had previously been
arrested on seven DUI cKarges
and one other offense, was one

ship went to Tim Brooks.
Presidential awards were

overall ‘B’ average and who
scored in the 80th percentile on
the PSAT, SAT or ACT, while
having 12 credits in college
prepatory courses. Recipients
