nounced this week.
A full day of activities will
be kicked ol¥ with a road race
at 8 a.m., sponsored by the
Sutl!)\merville-'l‘rion Optimist
club.
Next on the schedule is a
woman's softball game at 1
;l).m. and the “young” Old
'imers will play at 3 p.m.
CEREMONIES
Opening ceremonies for the
game, which highlights the
talents of the county's ‘boys of
summer’ of decades gone by,
will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an
officitfil welcome and
invocation.
Post 6688, Veterans of
Foreign Wars, will present and
gost the colors and Scott
rown will sing the national
anthem.
A flower arrangement will
be presented in memory of
deceased baseball greats and
their names will be read aloud.
INTRODUCTIONS
Both teams, one mana%ed
by Fred Stewart and the other
managed by David Koonce,
will be introduced.

Rodeo Championships Set
For High Schoolers Here
The Georgia High School
rodeo finals will be held this
weekend at Lowry's Arena,
Little Sand Mountain, Gore.
Competition will start at 8
p.m. Friday and Saturday and
at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission
will be $4. Ages 3 may enter
without charge.
Winners o?this competition
will advance to the national
championships rodeo later this
summer at Pueblo, Colorado.

Old Timers Game July 9
Dunn Is Another Chattooga Winner
Andy Dunn was Chattooga County's winner in
Georgia's Junior Olympics. Because of his performance
at Emory University last weekend, he’'s on his way to
the regional competition in Athens July 7 and 8. He won
first ;fi]ace in the 1,500-meter run in the 10 and under
division, turning in a time of 5:34. He also took first
place in the 800-meter run with a 2:41 time. Dunn also
won a second place in the 400-meter run with a 1:10

Optimists 5K Run July 9
Chattooga County's hottest
foot race of the summer will be
held July 9 at the Summerville
Recreation Center. It's the se
cond Summerville-Trion Op
timist Club 5 Kilometer Run,
otherwise known as ‘“The
Event.”
The 5K run will start at 8
a.m. that Saturday. Start and
finish of the race will be behind
the Recreation Center. The $6
entry fee should be postmark
ed no later than June 30. After
June 30 the entry fee will be SB,
and that fee may be paid the
day of the race
AWARDS
Several awards are being of
fered by the Optinuists, in
cluding first place for overall
male and female winners, a
first place for master’'s male
(age of more than 40) and
master's female. There will also
be first, second, and third place
awards in each age group.
Age groupings are 10 and
under, 11-13, 14-18, 19-24,
25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44,
45-49, 50-54. For men there is
an added group of 55-59. The
final categories are 60 and
above for men and 55 and
above for women.
Last year's overall men's
winner was Phil Baker,
Decatur, who ran the
| kilometers at a blistering clip
} of 15:16. The overall female
| winner was Beverly Coville,
| Rome, 18:08. Baker was 34,
I Ms. Qoville, 32.
