Accepts
Bid
A bid to loan the town of
Lyerly $460,000 at a 7.25 in
terest rate was aplproved by
the Town Council Tuesday
night. The approved offer was
made bg Farmers and Mer
chants Bank, Summerville,
The loan will provide in
terim financing for drilling a
well that will supply additional
water sorely neeged by the
town. Permanent financing will
be provided by the federal
Farmers Home Administration
(FmHA) Council members said.
The only other bid submit
ted came from First National
Bank, which offered to finance
the loan at 7.5 &ercent. Lyerlf'
Mayor Danny Wyatt said drill
ing could start as early as next
week.
The Council also approved
James ‘‘Buddy” Bla?ock as
recreation director for the
town. It was reported that
Commissioner Harr{ Powell
contributed SSOO to the Angus
McLeod Park fund.
Loose Tile
Litigation
Is Pending
No formal hearing was held
Monday in Chattoo%a County
SuFerior Court on a lawsuit in
volving a Lyerly woman and
the county government.
A hearing had been re
quested in the suit by the at
torney for Lena Marie Clark,
who said she fell on a loose tile
at the county courthouse on
May 5, 1987. She had filed
litigation against the county in
April of this year.
Lawyers for Commissioner
Harry gowell had contended
that he hadn't been properl
served with the lawsuit. Powefi
was then served with the
documents on Monday.
An amendment to Ms.
Clark's lawsuit was also filed
Tuesday, featuring a copy of a
letter written to Powell on Oct.
23, 1987 by Cliff Patty, Mrs.
Clark’s lawyer. The letter gave
Powell notice that Mrs. Clark
had a claim pending against
the county and if it were not
settled, a lawsuit would be
filed.

Saved In
Summerville
The Summerville and Trion
Fire Departments kept flames
from destroying a Summerville
residence on Tuesday.
Summerville firefighters
responded to the blaze at 112
Riverside Dr. at 4:32 p.m.
Tuesdaf' and remained on du
ty until 7:03 p.m. They were
backed up by Trion firemen.
The b&ze caused extensive
damage to the kitchen area of
the home and one end of the
roof but the remainder of the
house, owned by Glenda
Evans, was spared.
Extensive damage was
reported at the Oilwell Service
Station in Lyerly last Satur
day. Summerville firemen
helped the Lyerly Volunteer
Fire Department fight the
blaze. Summerville was on du
ty from 11:35 p.m. Saturday to
12:34 a.m. Sunday.
DUI Report
Eifht motorists were ar
rested in Chattooga County
during the past week on
charges of drivin% under the in
fluence (DUI) of intoxicants.
They were identified as:
Anthony Wade Parker, 34,
Rome, who was also charged
with not having proof of
insurance.
Charlie W. Jackson, 30,
Summerville Rte. 2, who was
also charged with being an
habitual violator.
Cathy Sue Muse, 30,
Calhoun.
Ronald 1. Mobley, 47, 7th
St., Trion, who was also charg
ed with driving on an expired
license. S
