A 19-year-old Chattooga
County Jail escapee enjoyed
less than 24 hours of freed‘:)m
before he was arrested and
laced back behind bars late
filst week,

McConnell said Andy Hines,
Summerville Rte. 2, escaped
from the jail about 1 a.m. fi:st
Friday bK slipping out an open
door to the facility's recreation
yard, climbmfi through barbed
wire and walking away,
Summerville police officers
and d?uties recaptured Hines
Saturday night near the Pay &
Tote, McConnell said.
The door was open in an at
tempt to moderate high
temperatures in the old part of
the jail, the sheriff said. Chiller
units in that section weren't
cooling the area sufficiently
because of 100-degree plus
temperatures, he said. Repairs
were being made to the units at
midweek.
Hines was being held on a
felony charge Lhat%\e violated
the Georgia Controlled
Substances Act, being under
21 and in possession ofa]cohol
and on a parole violation
warrant.
He has been charged with
felony escape, criminaf damage
to property and theft by taking
as a result of the escape,
McConnell said.
Teloga CDBG
Briefing Set
For July 12
A public briefing on plans
for using a Community
Development Block Grant
(CDBG) of $400,000 in the
'l‘eloglg area will be held at 6
p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the
Teloga Fire Hall.
Commissioner Harry
Powell announced the briefing
in an ad published in this
week's edition of The News.
The county plans to use the
funds, along with a $406,000
loan from the federal Farmers
Home Administration (FmHA)
to extend water service to the
Teloga community.

DUI Report
Four motorists, including a
16-year-old juvenile, were
charged with driving under the
influence (DUI) of intoxicants
during the past week in Chat
tooga County, according to jail
records.
They include:
Ellis E. Sparks, 24, 651
Burton Rd., Trion, who was
also charged with being an
habitual violator, not having a
helmet, not having a license
plate, not having proof of in
surance and attempting to
elude officers.
Carlton Timmons, 46,
Chattooga.
Danny C. Hines, 31, 612 N.
Commerce St., Summerville,
who was also charged with be
ing an habitual violator.
A 16-year-old boy, whose
name can't be published in ac
cordance with Georgia law.
Regina Little, 23, Summer
ville lé:e. 92, was charged with
being an habitual violator but
she wasn't charged with DUI.
Teens Charged
Five teen-agers have been
charged with being under 21
and in possession of alcohol
during tie past week in Chat
tooga County, according to jail
records.
They were identified as
John T. Whitaker, 18, 93 Con
way Dr., Trion, Wendell F.
Terry Jr., 18, Rome; Corey
Graci,y Duke, 17, Rome, Lester
M. Storey, 18, Rome, and Mit
chell J. Nroore. 19, Rome. They
were each released on SSOO
bond.
