Suspected
Arson At
Restaurant
A case o:rossible arson at
the R&M Cateteria, Highland
Street, Summerville, is still be
ing investigated.

Rick Van Pelt of the Summer
ville Police Department
responded to the blaze at 3:30
a.m. last Friday. They said
they found the back left side of
the structure afire and smelled
a strong odor of kerosene.
The officers broke open a
side door and Nix sprayed
water on the fire until firemen
arrived at the scene. Firemen
quickly extinguished the blaze
and were back at the station by
4 am.
Slight damage to an outer
wall was reported.
Inv. Greg Latta of the
Chattooga County Sheriff's Of
fice f(!;xeestioned a suspect about
the fire but no arrests had been
made by Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, firemen also ex
tinguished a shed fire on Clyde
Street at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday.
State Court
Set Monday
A week of civil trials was
cancelled this week in Chat
tooga County State Court and
the sole case on the calendar
continued until 1989.
However, non-jury criminal
trials will begin Monday before
Judge T. J. Espy. Jury trials
will start next Tuesday
morning.

Blood Drive
Collects
40 Pints
One of the best blood
drives in a year was held
Tuesday in Summerville,
according to officials with
the American Red Cross.
A total of 43 donors
showed up and 40 pints of
blood were collected. The
goal was 42 pints.
The drive was held at
Summerville Presbyterian
Church, U.S.A., sponsored
by the church and Chat
tooga County Hospital.
DUI Report
Four motorists were charg
ed with driving under the in
fluence (DUI) of intoxicants
during the past week in Chat
tooga County, according to jail
records. They were:
H. B. White, 47, 17 E. Third
Ave., Summerville, who was
also charied with driving
without a license, driving on
the wrong side of the road and
not having proof of insurance;
Randall Eg Kiacke , 28, Cedar
Bluff, Ala., also cKarged with
driving on a suspended license
and with an expired tag on his
vehicle; Claude Julian Moss,
29, Summerville Rte. 5; and
Bobby Campbell, 41,
LaFayette.
