late Peck Baxter, has been ac
cepted to Belmont College,
Nashville, Tenn.
Miss Brown will major in
music business. She hopes to
become a professional song
writer. She will start during the
summer, 1989.
Kayla is a 1988 graduate of
Chattooga High School.

Award from the President’s
Citation Program for Private
Initiatives V%dnesday morn
in%l in the Rose Garden of the
White House.
Dollar General operates a
store at 132 South Commerce
St., Summerville.
The award was presented to
Cal Turner Jr., president of the
firm. It was cited for its adult
literacy campaign. It has con
nected more than 8,600 people
with GED or learn-to-read pro
grams during the past year.
Dollar Genera;l) uses its
1,300 stores as information
centers. Free brochures are
available in each store with
postage-paid return cards. In
terested person complete the
cards by indicating which areas
of concern (learning to read,
GED testing or tutoring) they
have and then forwarding them
to the General Dollar staff in
Scottsville, Ky. The staff then
forwards the cards to the ap
propriate state agency. Most
people receive information on
specific programs in their com
munities within two weeks,
Dollar General officials said.

Mentally

ed in the newly organized
group, The Alliance for the
Mentally Il of Northwest
Georgia.
It will meet at 7 p.m. next
Tuesday in the auxiliary
building of the First Baptist
Church of Fort O%lethor e.
The grouK includes (ghat
tooga, Walker, Dade and
Catoosa Counties. Meetings
will be held on the first Tues
day and third Thursday of each
month in Fort Oglethorpe.

Chickamauga
Crafts Fair
The Gordon-Lee Mansion
Arts and Crafts Festival will be
held in Chickamauga on Satur
day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and
on Sunday from noon until 6
p.m.
General admission will be
$2 for adults and free for
children under 12.
The annual festival will be
sponsored by the Chickamauga
Lion's Club and all groceeds
will be used for charitable
purposes.
