10 Facing Drug Law Violation Charges
Ten susgects were arrested
on drug charges during the
8&3& week by the Chattooga
ountg Sheriff's Office. More
than $17,000 cash and four
vehicles were seized in connec
tion with one raid. ;
Two suspects were arrested
at 5:45 p.m. last 'l‘hursdag' ina
raid on a house in the Silver
Hill community. Charéed with
violating the Georgia Controll
ed Substances Act (GCSA)
were James Hammond, 41, of
a Rome address, and Iva Nell
Haynes, 39, Summerville Rte.
4. Hammond was beina/held in
lieu of $150,000 bond Wednes
day mornsi:g and Ms. Haynes
was released on $50,000 bond.

was hidden in the vehicles and

A second search warrant
was executed at 10:15 a.m. Fri
day, the sheriff continued. Lat

Deps. P.R. Hill and Stan
Smith and Murray County
Sheriff's Dep. Leroy Green and
his two drug-sniffing dogs par
ticig‘ated in that search.

dogs led officers to a toilet in
the residence and Deputy
Blackwell removed a plastic
bag containing about a half
ounce of suspected cocaine
from the toilet trap.

W. McGuire, 32, Summerville

mained in the jail Wednesday
morning. Ms. McGuire was
releaseg on $25,000 bond.

The lawmen said the raid
occurred on Trion Rte. 2. They
confiscated eight four-foot
suspected marijuana e‘rlants.

Tina McGuire, 24, 313 Penn
St., Trion, was also charged
with violating the GCSA and
released on $25,000 bond, jail
records show.
Michael Steve McGill, 25,
Mentone, Ala., was arrested by
the sheriff's office and Georgia
State Patrol during a road
check Sunday on Lase Wanda
Reita Road. He was charged
with violating the GCSA, driv
ing on a revoked license and on
an expired tag. He was releas
ed on bonds totaling $61,000.
ROAD CHECK
Dep. Sgt. Ken Anderson,
Trooper Sgt. Eddie Ivey and
Trooper Bill DeHart arrested
McGill after he allegedly at
tempted to avoid the road
check, McConnell said. McGill
stopsed his vehicle on Memory
Gardens Road, they said.
A search of his vehicle by
Trooper DeHart turned up
three bags of suspected mari
juana, reports added. McCon
nell said %ep. Ben Mosley did
a body search of McGill at the
jail af{er the arrest and found
two bags of suspected mari
juana in McGill's underwear.
Travis Joe Little, 27, 251
Memorial Dr., Summerville,
was charged Tuesday with
violating the GCSA, being a
convicted felon in possession of
a firearm, not having a driver’s
license and not having proof of
insurance. He remaineg in jail
near noon Wednesday.
Alan Dewight Duke, 26
Summerville Rte. 1, was charg
ed last Friday with a felony
violation of the GCSA and
released on $50,000 bond, jail
records show.
Arthur Calvin McElroy, 45,
Lyerly Rte. 1, was charged last

ed on $50,000 bond.

Meanwhile, another raid on
Summerville Rte. 3 shortly
after 8 p.m. last Friday

with possessing beer and liquor
for resale and released on

beer and liquor without a

ARTIST DIES
Meanwhile a Chattooga
folk artist was found dead at
his home last Saturday after
noon, apparently of natural
causes. Graveside services
were held Monday morning at
Macedonia Cemetery for
James Billy Lemming, 61,
Summerville Rte. 3.
Billy Joe Lemming, his son,
failed to get his father to the
door of his home on the Trion-
Teloga Road, said a report fil
ed by Deputy Blackwell and
Investigator Latta. He called
lawmen and they found Lemm
ing dead on the floor of his kit
chen. He had been dead for
several days, lawmen said. Cor
oner Earle Rainwater said
death was due to natural
causes.

duct, assaulting an officer and
