Let’s Go Fishing
By J.P. “SCOTTY" SCOTT

The crappie are hitting good and holding in about eight
feet of water around cover.
When you start hanging up on stumps, put out your
marker, fish your way and start catching crappie.
Paul Cooper and wifemate went three times‘;ast week and
had good catches each time. Julius James and wife caught 36
crappie on Sunday morning, Oct. 16, at their place on Dead
goyaDead Boy is off Alabama Highway 9 on the Riverside
oad.
Oscar Hunter and Lonnie Johnson had some good catches
last week. Gene Parker, Fred Brown and I went to Weiss Lake
on Monday, Oct. 17, and caught. 18 slabs. We lost five of the
largest cr?fl:ie I have ever seen. Fred brought one to the top
that would have weighed six pounds or better. | have seen
a few five-gounders and that one was the largest I have ever
seen. We didn't think to use a dir net.
Winter crapgie hold in a small circle, maybe 4' x 4’ and
at the same depth. To find how out deep, cast a fourth-ounce
lure and count one foot per second of fall and when they hit,
you know how deep they are feeding. They are not scattered.
After church Sunday, Oscar Hunter and I went to Weiss
Lake fishing. I had heard a lot about Oscar and his old worn
out automo%ile starter as a depth, drop-off and stump finder.
All those tall tales about Oscar and his worn-out car starter
are true. His method is perfect and so is his jig fishing.
Yes, he beat me fishing, but I have a return match.
Always hold the tip of you rod utp when winding in or troll
ing. This saves a lot of snags and fish. Thread your line into
the hook from the hook point and garb side. ’iyhis pulls the
hook point into the roof of the fish’s mouth.
A new dock has been built in Georgia on the Coosa River.
It is off Highway 100 on the Old River Road. It is less than
20 liniles from Summerville, the land of adventure, the land
we love.
I met old “‘Rusty Hook™ last Saturday at the General
Store. He was bragging and dipping snuff and spitting and
spraying.
“Rusty,” I said, I am a bachelor and will always be a
bachelor and all my children will grow up to be like you.
Rusty Hook is that LA (Lower Alabama), trotline
falvkman. N e
"w;f;l:ew).'.our family fishing with you. A family that fishes
together enjoys life.
See you pal — Scotty.
