Three Injured
In Collision
Three motorists were in
jured in two separate traffic ac
cidents in Chattooga County
during the past week, accor
ding to the Georgia State
Patrol.
Two were hurt in a near
head-on crash on Highway 27
at the Prison Road at Pennville
at 7:15 a.m. last Thursday, Oct.

Lula Mae Davis, 43, Summer
ville Rte. 3, and Mary
Elizabeth Powell, 48, Trion.
Both were carried to Chattooga
Countly:‘ Hospital by the Chat
tooga KEmergency Medical Ser
vice (EMS).

Davis vehicle pulled from the
Prison Road into the path of
Factor 11 Percent
The Chattooga County tax digest has been factored by 11
percent.
Hugh Don Hall, tax commissioner, said late Wednesday
that his office had been notified unofficially by telephone by
the State Revenue Department that the factor this year would
be 11 Percent. It was seven percent in 1987.
Hall said he hopes to have the revised digest information
ready to be presented to local governments and the Chattooga
Board of Education within tfie next two days. They are ex
pected to lower their respective tax rates to compensate for
the factor.

Merchants Will
Honor Rug Mill
Gift Certificates
Georgia Rug Mill
employees will receive S2O gift
certificates again this year and
will be able to redeem them for
merchandise at designated
businesses in Chattooga Coun
ty, it was announced Tuesday
at the Retail Council meeting
of the Chattooga Chamber of
Commerce.
The certificates cannot be
used to open bank accounts
and they cannot be cashed for
the money, said Sue Spivey, ex
ecutive vice president of the
Chamber. The certificates will
be valid Dec. 1-31, she said.
Merchants will be able to
exchange the certificates for a
check from the Chamber three
times, Dec. 16, 28 and after
Jan. 1, Mrs. Spivey said. A
total of 27 merchants has
ifreed to accept Georfia Rug
ill certificates, and those
retailers will be listed on the
certificates, she said.
They include: Ballenger’'s
Pizza-Deli, Bohanan's,
Bankson Oil and Tire, Cook’s
Pharmacy, Dottie's Slimmer-
Trimmer-U Salon, Duff’s
Florist, Farmer's Furniture,
Gold, ETc., The “Great Out

Boutique, Hurley's Food
Center, Jackson Drug Com

Trooper Lumsden said the
Crenshaw car was involved in
a collision with a pickugdtruck
driven by Houston L. Marks,
43, 404 Jones St., Summerville.
Both vehicles were traveling
north on U.S. 27 when the
Crenshaw car pulled to the
right shoulder and attem¥ted
to make a U-turn in front of the
Marks truck, Trooper

Radio Stolen
From Vehicle
An AM-FM cassette radio
valued at $239 was reported
stolen from a vehicle owned by
Amos Perry, 118 Lewis St.,
Monday, according to Sum
merville Folice.
Burglars also entered
Miller's Chevron, 101 S. Com
merce St., last Friday night but
failed to get inside the office,
said officer J. R. Johnson. En

Two power tools and a weed
trimmer valued at S4OO were
stolen from the vehicle of Rex
Evans, 517 Martin St., last
Thursday, reported Sgt.

The home of Edward
Sewell, 70 Hawkins Dr., was
hit by burglars last Friday,
said ggt. Ricky Van Pelt and
officer Eddie Colbert. Entry
was gained through a side door
to the house. Listed as missing
were — .16 gauge shotgun,
watch, box of shotgun shells,
earrings and $125 cash.
