Bessie Bennett
Mrs. Bessie Beatrice Ben
nett, 83, 2 Perry Dr., Summer
ville, died Monday night, Oct.
31, in Chattooga County
Hosfiital.
rs. Bennett was born in
Chattooga County on Oct. 17,
1905, daughter of the late
George F. and Lizzie Skates
Baggett. She was a member of
West Summerville Baptist
Church, and was retired from
the Weaving Department of
Mount Vernon/Riegel Textile
Corp. Her husband, Carl Ben
nett, died in 1960.
Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Mae
Miller and Mrs. Ruthie Groce,
Summerville; one son, James
Bennett, Trion; four sisters,
Mrs. Thelma Guinn, Miss
Katie Baggett and Mrs.
Evelyn Lemming, Trion, and
Mrs. Lemous Deering,
LaFayette; two brothers,
George F. Baggett, Summer
ville, and Lonnie Baggett,
Trion; five grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren;

Mittie Dodd
Miss Mittie Louise Dodd,
91, Alpine, died on Wednesday,
Oct. 26, at Oak View Nursing
Home.
Survivors include one
brother, Tom Dodd, Alpine;
and one sister, Miss (glara
Dodd, Alpine.
Gravesides services were
held at 1 p.m. last Friday, Oct.
28, at New Euharlee Cemetery.

Jess Hix
Jess Wert Hix, 84, Trion,
died Tuesday morning, Nov. 1,
in the LaFayette Health Care
Center.
Mr. Hix was born Sept. 26
1904, in Walker County, son of
the late William Milton and
Myrtis Lee Chapman Hix. He
was a Veteran of World War
11, and a retired &)ainter having
worked with Riegel Textile
Corg. for mang' years.

Gordon Hix, Billy Hix and
Robert Hix died earlier.
Survivors include five
sisters, Mrs. Georgia Wardlaw,
Mrs. Louise Irvin, Rome, Mrs.
Betty Elrod, Trion, Mrs. Helen
Neeley, Chattanooga, Tenn.,
Mrs. %orothy Wiltsfii.re. Orlan
do, Fla.; one brother, Milton

Ala.; and several nieces and

held at 3 p.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 2, in Trion Cemetery with
the Rev. Jim Cordell and David
Curry officiatinfi.

Mrs. Gertrude Hollis
Pledger, 67, Back Penn Road,
Summerville Rte. 2, died
Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 26,
at her residence following a
long illness.

Chattooga County on May 29,
1921, daughter 0{ the late Ed
ward and Alice Dalton Hollis.
She was a member of the Trion
First Baptist Church and was
retired from the Spinning

Fred Reed
Fred Reed, 55, 214 Harrell
St., Trion, died Sunday after
noon, Oct. 30, after a long
illness.
Mr. Reed was born in Chat
tooga County on April 23,
1933. He was a son of the late
Joe and Mildred Ruth
Hawkins Reed. He was a
Methodist and was employed
in the Weaving Department of

Mrs. Frances Reed; step
mother, Mrs. Jewell Reed,

stepdaughters, Mrs. Barbara
Edwards, Gaylesville, Ala.,

Shirley Hines, Trion; one step
son, Cyarl Gentry, Trion; two
brothers, Windgl Reed, Fort
Oglethorpe and Willis Reed,
Summerville; two half-sisters,
Miss Susan Reed, Lyerly, and
Mrs. Marsha Goodlett, &lum
bus, Miss.; one half-brother,
Joe Reed, Lyerly; 11 grand
children; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Tuesda%, Nov. 1, in
the chapel of Erwin-Petitt
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Ed Guinn officiating.
Interment was in Oak Hill
Cemetery.

Price.

Paul White
Paul Devon White Sr., 51,
Ringgold, died Friday, Oct. 28,
at his residence.
Mr. White was born in
Chattooga County on July 19,
1937, son of the late Paul J.
“‘Budgie” White. He was a
member of the Summerville
Church of God, manager of the
Fort Oglethorpe Bowling
Lanes, a member of the Chat
tanooga Bowlin§ Association,
past-gzesident of the YABA, a
member of Iron Workers Local
704, and was active in the Pat
Boone Bethel Bible School. Mr.
White was a veteran of Viet
nam, having served in the U. S.
Army.
Surviving aré his mother,
Mrs. Rosa Ponder White, Sum
merville; one da\fifhter, Pamela
Hu‘}fan, Rossville; two sons,
Paul Devon White Jr., and Jef
fery Raymond White,
Rossville; one brother, Carl
James White, Athens; three
sisters, Shirley White Igou,
Morristown, Tenn., Nelda
White Smith, Trion, and Jean
nie White Chandler, Ringgold;
one grandson, Justin Daniel
Hulgan; and several nieces and
nephews. ! T
Funeral services were held
at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in
Summerville Church of God
with the Revs. Jack Chandler
and J. Glenn Boatner
officiating.
Interment was in Summer
ville Cemetery.

Oglethorpe, had charge of the
arrangements.

Chattooga County Commis
sioner Harry Powell this week
listed 10 roads he has asked the
Georgia Department of
Tran%portation (DOT) to pave
in 1989 under the Local
Assistance Road Program
(LARP).
The roads are listed in an ad
published in this week's edition
of The Summerville News. It
will be billed to the Chattooga
government.

The roads listed in order
include:
— Gore to Subligna Road
from Farmersville Road to the
Walker County line.
— Villanow Road from
Subligna to the Walker Coun
ty line.
— Dry Creek Valley Road
from the Villanow Road to the
Floyd County line.
— Shinbone Valley Road
from Highway 48 north to
Highway 337.
— Holland to Chat
toogaville Road.
