Deadline Set
As the 1988 Disaster
Assistance Program (DAP)
enters its final month, the ex
ecutive director of the Chat
tooga County ASCS Office
reminded farmers that the final
date for filing applications is
March 31.
“*We want farmers to have
every opportunity to apply for
assistance on their 1988 cro
losses,”” Hank Hammond sai(f
“and also for them to be aware
of certain benefits under a
special program provision,"
The DAP compensates
eligible producers for produc
tion losses on most commer
cially grown crops. Farmers
who lost more than 35(Fercent
of their crop production
because of drought may be
eligible for payments.
Under an emergency provi
sion, Hammond said farm pro
gram participants who receiv
ed advance payments for the
annual 1988 wheat, feed grains
and cotton programs may keep
that portion of their a(K/ance
payments which represent loss
of crop production up to 35 per
cent of their normal roé)\fc
tion. “To be eligible E)r this
benefit, farmers must sign up
under the DAP.” Producers
who did not request advance
payments when they signed up
for the annual programs had
until last Oct. 27 to request
these payments.
Farmers who have not ap
plied for the DAP should do so
