Benefit Supper Reset April 28
A benefit spaghetti supper
planned for Friday night Eas
been postponed until April 28
and the price has been reduced.
The supper had been
scheduled to aid Chattooga
County Hospital.
But the new dining room
and kitchen for Oak View Nur
sing Home will not be opened
in time for the supper this
weekend, according to Dan
Sweitzer, executive director of
the hospital. It had been
scheduled to be ready for oc
cupancy this past Friday but
ran into a couple of snags (see
related story) that will delay its
use until sometime next week
at the earliest.
Sweitzer gave his report at
a meeting of the Chattooga
(Cares Committee Monday mor
ning at the M&M Cafeteria.
STEPS
He also pointed out that
steps leading from the parking
area on the east side of the new
building have not been com
pleted, making it almost im
possible to enter the new din
ing room from that location.
T'he committee also decided
to lower the price of the benefit
supper from $lO per ticket to
$5 per person. In essence, the
committee decided, anyone
with a $lO ticket will be able to
purchase two suppers with
that ducat.

NORTH GEORGIA CRUISERS CLUB DONATES S6OO
Dan Sweitzer, Mike Fulmer, Joseph Jackson
of the committee, was expected
to determine from Money the
best date for the auction. It will
probably be held sometime in
April.
A total of $70,115 had been
raised as of Monday morning,
Sweitzer said. A goal of
$200,000 had been set last
Nov. 15. The campaign
deadline was extended to April
1 from Feb. 14 but the commit
tee indicated Monday morning
that it would probably be ex
tended again until after the
spaghetti supper is held in late
April.

SI,OOO CHECK
The hospital has received a
SI,OOO check from GTE,
Sweitzer said, and the firm in
dicated that more may be for
thcoming if an official 501(c) (3)
tax exempt corporation or
foundation is established.
Charles Farrar, chairman of
the drive, said collection jars
Eluced throughout the county
ave generated some SI,OOO in
donations so far during the
campaign.
Farrar also indicated disap
pointment that some major
local churches hadn't donated
to the campaign.
The total !\fonday morning
didn’t include a S6OO contribu
tion made that afternoon by
the North Georgia Cruisers, a
local newly organized car club.
It raised the funds with a car
wash recently.
BREAKDOWN
Sweitzer's financial sheet
showed that five major cor
porations have given $13,509
to the fund drive with $17,151
coming from 42 small
businesses, $5,125 from nine
professional people, $5,145
from 20 organizations and
clubs, $11,722 from 18 chur
ches and $17,463 from more
than 100 individuals.
The next meeting of the
Chattooga Cares Committee
will be h({id at 7:30 a.m. Friday,
April 14, at the M&M.

Oak View
Kitch
The new kitchen and dining
room for Oak View Nursing
Home may be available for use
by next Monday, more than a
week later than had been
estimated.
The facilities were suppos
ed to have been ready for use
this past Friday but the unan
ticipated late arrival of an
emergency generator and some
kitchen modifications caused
the delay, said Dan Sweitzer,
executive director of Oak View
and Chattooga County
Hospital.
The State Fire Marshal's
Office also required modifica
tion of the ceiling area over the
kitchen range hood, Sweitzer
said Monday morning. A
reinspection of the facility by
the state is scheduled for next
Monday and the hospital ad
ministrator is ho fu? that it
will be approved l[)(‘ir occupan
cy and use next week.
But the spaghetti supper
planned for Frifay night was
postponed until April (see
related story) to make sure
that the dining room and kit
chen will be ready for use.
