Power Bill
Highest In
EMC History
North Georgia EMC, which
serves much of Chattooga
County, has just received its
highest power bill in its 54-year
history.
General Manager Elvin J.
Farrar said the February bill
ing for power it purchased at
wholesale from Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA) was
$7,708,573.17. The cost was
based on the peak record load
at 7 a.m. on l-peb. 24 when the
reading was for 394,966 kw
demand. i
North Georgia EMC pur
chases power from TVA and
distributes it to portions of
Chattooga, Whitfield, Murray,
Gordon, Catoosa, Walker and
Floyd counties.
“When we receive a state
ment such as that, our
customers should recognize the
value of well-insulated homes
and J)laces of business. Storm
windows, weather-stripping,
storm doors, and sufficient at
tic insulation would save our
geople on their winter power
ills, and at the same time help
us reduce our power purchases
from TVA,” he added.
Recorded weather condi
tions at the peak reading were
a 15-degree temperature and a
minus-nine wind-chill factor,
according to Edwin Parker,
microwave and Supervisory
Control and Data Acquisition
specialist.
“With that kind of
temperature and wind-chill fac
tor, many hundreds of gallons
of hot water were used in mor
ning showers and baths, and
heaters were turned u? high as
people sought warmth,” com
mented Parker.
