Two Injured
In Mishaps
Two motorists were injured
in separate traffic accidents in
Summerville during the past
week,
Sgt. Larry Bennett of the
Summerville Police Depart
ment said Ella Frances House,
75, Lyerly Rte. 1, was hurt in
a two-vehicle mishap on Lyer
ly Highway at its intersection
with golling Road at 3:14 p.m.
Monday.
His report said the House
vehicle turned left off the Lyer
ly Highway into the path of a
car driven by Michael Shane
Tapp, 16, Summerville Rte. 3.
ONE HURT
One person was also hurt in
a one-vehicle accident on
Woodland Avenue at Coniress
Street at 12:15 p.m. last Thurs
daff, according to Summerville
police Capt. Fred Lawson.
She was identified as Annie
Mae Allgood, 38, 279 Allgood
St., Trion. Reports said her car
was traveling south on
Woodland Avenue when she
applied the brakes on her car.
It slid into a tree and then
struck an embankment,
reports added.
DUI Report
Seven motorists were
charged with driving under the
influence (DUI) of intoxicants
during the past week in Chat
tooga County, according to
records at the county jail. %hey
were:
Stephen D. Shaver, 23, 711
S. Congress St., Summerville,
who was also charged with be
ing an habitua% violator;
Michael Wayne Morris, 33,
Summerville Rte. 5, who was
also charged with being an
habitual violator; Jeff F. Cov
ington, 19, 120 E. Sixth Ave.,
Summerville; Travis Williams,
21, Fort Payne, Ala.; Charles
Wayne Burk, 52, Summerville
Rte. 3; Mike Morris, 33, Sum
merville Rte. 5, who was also
charged with being an habitual
violator and not having proof
of insurance; and Jimmy Allen
Trammell, 20, Summerville
Rte. 5, who was also char%ed
with driving too fast for
conditions.

No one was hurt in a train-tractor-trailer
truck accident in Trion at 2:30 p.m. Mon
day. Trion police officers Ernest Morris
and Steve Dyer said the truck was driven
by John Paul Rowlls, 46, Lyerly Rte. 1.
The train's engineer was Marvin T.
Turkett, 43, Summerville Rte. 1. The ac-

Carlton Lee Johnson, 19,
Rome, was charged with felony
shoplifting and a misdemeanor
violation of the Georgia Con
trolled Substances Act (GCSA)
in connection with the incident.
George Edward O'Neill, 19,
Rome, was charged with felony
theft by shoplifting, and
Sydney Ramon Johnson, 22,
Rome, was charged with being
a party to felony shoplifting
and eluding officers. Joseph E.
McCluskey, 22, Rome, was
charged with felony theft by
shoplifting.
All four remained in the
Chattooga County Jail at mid
morning Wednesday.
ALARM
Trion police officer Gary
Ford said an alarm went off at
Shives Jewelry, Triangle Shop
ping Center, Trion, at 3:20 p.m.
Monday, alerting police to a
problem at the store. On arrival
at the store, Ford said he learn
ed that two diamond and gold
nugget rings and a 14 carat
gold chain had been grabbed
by a customer who then fled
the store. The items were
valued at $1,044.
Ford said he learned from
residents of the area that the
susg)ects had gotten in a yellow
Cadillac parked at the Trion
walking track on Central
Avenue. After %atrolin the
area, he spotted the vehicfe and
pulled it over to check out the
occupants. He was assisted by
Trion officer Ernest Morris and
Inv. Greg Latta of the Chat
tooga Sheriff's Office.
Johnson fled the scene as
officer Morris was transferring
him to a patrol car, reports
said, but the suspect was later
recaptured by Morris and Lat
ta. The other three suspects
were arrested and carried to
the county jail.
