County Retail Council
Changes Meeting Time
The Retail Council of the
Chattooga County Chamber of
Commerce will no longer meet
on the first Tuesday of the
month,
The monthly meeting has
been rescheduled to 7:15 a.m.,
the last Wednesday of the
month. The next meeting of the
council will be May 31.
The move is designed to
bring more retail merchants
from across the county to the

Retail Council meeting said
changing the time of the
meeting will allow other coun
ty merchants to become more
involved with the council.
In other business, the coun
cil said that there will be three
top winners in the Mother's
Day essay contest.
Essays telling why your
mother is special should be no
longer than 125 words, written
by the one entering the contest,
and be submittecfbefore May
5 to the Chattooga County
Chamber of Commerce office.

The council also decided to
promote Charlie Lowry Rodeo
Days by asking retailers to
dress in western attire during
the weekend of the Lowry
Rodeo, May 5,6, and 7.
The annual Shriner's
telethon and parade will be
May 19, 20 an£2l. Merchants
were encouraged to put up
welcoming posters. The parade
will start at 11 a.m. on I\Fay 20.
Police Probe
Area Thefts
Summerville police this
week are investigating several
thefts.
A purse containing S7O and
personal items was stolen from
the car of Bonnie Simpson,
Summerville Rte. 5, while it
was parked in front of City
View Apartments Saturday
night and Sunday morning,
reported officers.
Sgt. Larry Bennett said a
thief entere({ the residence of
Jesse Pettyjohn, Summerville
Rte. 1, ang’ stole a single shot
shotgun between last Thurs
day and Saturday.
A power meter valued at
$375.82 was stolen from the
rear of Farmers Furniture,
North Commerce Street, last
Thursday night, said Sergeant
Bennett.
Chief Arlen Thomas
reported that a vandal had put
two dents in the hood of a vehi
cle owned by Barry Hurley,
100 Hurley Rd., while it was
parked at the First National
Bank of Chattooga County, N.
Commerce Street, Summer
ville. The incident occurred on
March 29, the report indicated.
Permit Sought
The City of Summerville is
seeking a permit to grade pro
perty in its industrial park on
Highway 100, according to the
Environmental Protection
Division of the Georgia
Department of Natural
Resources.
The public has until May 1
to comment to the EPD on the
application.
The EPD said the city will
have to comply with the state’s
erosion and sedimentation act
of 1975 when it undertakes the
work.

The Red Cross had hoped
for 48 donors and to collect bet

To reach its goal for
1988-89 by July 1. 55 donors
will be needed on June 20 to en
sure that 43 pints of blood are
obtained at that time, Mrs.
l.ambert said. The goal for the
year is 304 pints.
The next blood drive for the
City of Trion will be held on
June 1 at Mount Vernon Mills,
Riegel Division, Mrs. Lambert
said. That community has an
annual goal of 175 pints. Since
135 pints have already been
collected, she added, 40 pints
will be needed on June 1.
