Staff Has More Room, New Equipment To Serve Residents
Oak View Addition Delayed
The new 63-bed addition to
Oak View Nursing Home won't
be occupied next week as had
been planned, according to Dan
Sweitzer, executive director of
the nursing home and Chat
tooga County Hospital.
Various changes required
by the Georgia State Fire Mar
shal's Office probably won't be
completed until about next Fri
day, April 14, Sweitzer said. It
would then be the next week

A tentative open house on
Sunday, April 23, will probably
have to be postponed until the
first or second weekend in
May, Sweitzer estimated.
It may be possible to oc
cupy the new addition
sometime during the week of
April 17-21, the executive
director said Wednesday, but
all equipment progably
on March 29. We have three
new CPR instructors for Chat
tooga Hospital and Oak View
Nursing Home. They are Bet
ty St. Clair, Martha Blansit
and Lolita Strickland.
The church services for the
nursing home for the month of
April are: April 2, Central

Raid Nets
One Arrest
A Menlo man has been
released from the Chattooga
County Jail on $25,000 bond
after being arrested last Friday
on felony drug law violations.
Sheriff Gary McConnell
identified the suspect as
Charles W. Porter, 28, Reece
Street, Menlo Rte. 1.
Lawmen said they found
about four ounces of suspected
marijuana and four sets of
scales duriné; a raid at 3:30
p.m. last Friday. Participating
in the raid were Chief Inv. Ron
Turner, Invs. Grcif Latta and
Larry Kellett and Deps. Bill
Blacl‘;well and Ladon Lively.
MOTORCYCLES
Two motorcycles valued at
$4,200 were reported stolen
from an open shed at the home
of Tim Hegwood, Menlo Rte. 1,
on Saturday, McConnell said.
A lock was broken off a shed
adjacent to the open shed hous
ing the motorcycles but
nothing was reported missing,
according to the report filed by
Investigator Larry Kellett.
A Trion woman was ar
rested Sunday after a burglary
had been reported in that town.
Regina K. Little, 23, 1107 Rose
Cir., Trion, was charged with
theft by taking and gru law
violations. She was transgerred
to the Floyd County Jail,
where she remained at mid
morning Wednesday.
The items were reported
missing by Mitzi Brookshire,
1108 Rose Cir., Trion. Listed as
stolen were two rings, a 24-inch
gold chain, earrin%s, watch and
two bracelets, all valued at
SI,OOO.
A strip search of Ms. Little
by a female deputy at the jail
turned up a quantity of
suspected marijuana and 27
pills in an unlabeled bottle, ac
cording to a report filed by
Dep. Sggt. Ken f{)r(:derson and
Investigator Kellett.
FIREARMS
Three firearms were
reported stolen from the home
of Raymond Leroy Williams,
Trion ¥{te. 1, between March 7
and 11, according to a report
filed Sunday. They were listed
asa.22 caliger riff(’e. .25 caliber
pistol and a .38 caliber revolver
with seven-inch barrel.
Someone fired two shots at
Daisy Fife, Summerville Rte. 5,
on Sunday evening, according
to a report filed by Deputy
Westbrooks. A suspect has
been identified in the case but
not arrested by mid-morning
Wednesday.
A vandal shot out a window
on a car at TJ's Used Cars,
Highway 27, Trion, Sunday,
causing sllO in damage, accor
ding to a report filed by Dep.
Sgt. P. R. Hill.
MAILBOX
Vandals damaged the
mailbox of Tim Reynolds,
Summerville Rte. 1, last Satur
day, said a report filed by Dep.
Joey Norton. Reynolds follow
ed the suspects to the Lyerly
Dam, obtained their names and
demanded that they repair his
mailbox, the report in(figqted.
A 83 gasoline driveoff from
Smile convenience store, Penn
ville, was reported Monday
night. Deputy Gifford located
the guilty parties and made
them return to the store and
pay for the fuel, according to
reports.
Some sl4 was stolen from
a pants pocket at the home of
Clara Campbell, Summerville
Rte. 1, by a burglar on Mon
day, according to lawmen.

tend the spring meeting of the
Seventh District Georgia
Municipal Assn. in Calhoun
next Tuesday.
The session will begin at 4
p.m. at the Elk's Lodge.
Those attending from Trion
will include Mayor Hoyt
Williams and Councilmen
Larry Stansell, Henry Miller,
Frank Stewart, Dale McCollum
and Dwight Arden.
Summerville City Hall
spokesmen said late Wednes
day that no information was
available on whether any of
ficials would attend the GMA
session. Councilman Ronnie
Pilcher is the Seventh District
board member of the GMA.
Menlo Mayor Theresa
Canada said no one from Menlo
will attend the meeting.
Lyerly Mayor Danny
Wyatt was unavailable late
Wednesday.
Hixson Firm Submits Low Bid
A Hixson, Tenn., company
Wednesday afternoon sugmit
ted the apparent low bid for
completing and expanding the
speculative buildin% in Sum
merville's industrial park to
house a new facility planned by
Image Carpets Inc.
Rowlett Inc. submitted a
bid of $1,013,057 and pledge to
complete the project within 150

charges and two other people
were charged with hindering
his apprehension or
punishment.
John E. England, 17, Sum
merville Rte. 3, was charged
with two counts of theft b
taking and obstruction of o{
ficers. He remained in jail at
mid-morning Wednesday.
Charged with hindering his
apprehension were Lisa l%uth
Ragland, 17, Lyerly, and Bet
ty Sue Ragland, 41, Lyerly.
They were released on SSOO
bond each.
ARRESTS
Among other arrests made
by the sheriff's office during
the past week were the

34, Summerville Rte. 3, was
charged Monday with writing
a bad check and released on
SSOO bond.
— Pauline R. Laney, 29, 10
Woodland Ave., Summerville,
was charged with two felony
counts of being a party to a
crime and released on $5,000
bond.
— Randy Pendergrass, 24,
Lyerly Rte. 1, was charged
with obstruction of officers, in
terference with government
property and public drunk on
Sunday and re‘feased on bonds
of $1,500.
— Bruce Campbell, 28, 604
Summerville Gardens Apts.,
Summerville, was charged with
disorderly conduct and
resisting arrest Monday by
Summerville police. He was
released on bond.
THEFT
— Randy Lynn Fletcher,
30, 1104 Summerville Gardens
Apts., Summerville, was charg
ed with theft by deception Sun
day, released on SSOO bond and
turned over to Walker County
authorities.
— James Ray Warren, 19,
239 Oak Hill Dr., Lyerly, was
charged Saturday with being
under 21 and in possession of
alcohol. He was released on
SSOO bond.
— John Thomas Adams,
17, Lyerly, was charged with
second degree crimina% damage
to property Saturday and
released on SSOO bond.
— Tommy Lee Cameron,
64, Lyerly Rte. 1, was charged
Friday with possessing non
tax-paid whiskey and released
on SSOO bond.
— James David Kirby, 39,
Rome, was charged with felony
theft by taking March 29 and
released on $5,000 bond.
Fire Tower
Observance
The 40th anniversary
of the installation of the
Georgia Forestry Commis
sioner tower at High Point
will be observed with a
special program on Satur
day, April 15.

nounced next week.
Drilling To
Resume At
Lyerly Well
Drilling at two well sites for
the Lyerly area may begin
within three weeks, according
to Mayor Danny Wyatt.
Wyatt said this week that
he would meet with the drilling
crew next Wednesday, and
that drilling should begin in the
two weeks after the crew had
visited both sites.
“I'm pretty sure they'll
begin before the end of April,”
he said.
The new sites are located
one-half mile north and south
of the previous drilling site on
Highway 100. The site was
abandoned after drilling equip
ment sank into murky ground
after a recent rain, Wya%{ said.
