Menlo Seeks
New Source
Of Water
By KAREN COOK
Contributing Writer
Menlo's water problems
may be on the way to being
solved. An additional water
source for use by Menlo area
residents is being sought.
Mayor Theresa Canada up
dated council members on the
project at Tuesday night's
meeting. The Department of
Natural Resources has been
contacted by the city for
assistance in selecting a new
well site, Mayor Canada said.
The current lack of a secon
dary water source and the
memory of last summer’'s
drought has caused council
mem%ers to delay additional
water line requests for persons
outside city limits.
CONNECTIONS
However, the council ap
proved two connections and
postponed action on two
others. It okayed one water line
because city water lines are
already on the property. The
other water line was approved
because it is within the city
limits. The council delayed ac
tion on the water line requests
of Ken Whitfield and Elsie
Grogan. :
Additionally, Mayor
Canada announced that as re
quired by Farmers Home Ad
ministration, all sewerage
customers will receive April
sewerage bills. The rate is bas
ed on water usage.
In other business, the coun
cil agreed to start spraying for
mosquitoes and to eliminate a
potential safety hazard.
Specifically the council
discussed complaints regar
ding private property located
near Menlo United Methodist
Church.
Finally the council went in
to closed session to discuss a
personnel matter.
Return To Class
Students and teachers in
the Chattooga County and
Trion school systems will
return to classes next Monday
morning.
They began a week of
spring holidays this past
Monday.
