Estelle Anderson, 64, Lyer
ly Rte. 1, died Saturday after
noon, April 8, at her residence
following an extended illness.
Mrs. Anderson was born in
Walker County May 24, 1924,
daufhter of the late Luther
Earl Anderson Sr. and the late
Paralee Akins Anderson. She
was a member of the Berrvton
Baptist Church. Her husband,
the late Vernon Anderson, died
earlier.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Faye Winters, Summer
ville; one son, Jimmy Ander
son, Lyerly; two sisters, Mrs.
Grace Norton, Summerville,
and Mrs. Lavera Pickle, Trion;
one brother, Luther Earl
Anderson Jr. of Virginia
Beach, Va.; two grand
daughters, Karen Brown, Sum
merville and Kimberly
Winters, Summerville; one
fireat-granddaughter. Heather
rown, Summerville; and
sevaral nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, at
Berryton Baptist Church with
the Revs. BilF Abercrombie and
Carl Kinsey officiating.
Interment was in West Hill
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Robert Brown, Frank
McCrickard, Dannie Moseley,
Wayne McArthur, Hillary
Howell and Ronnie Winters.
Honorary pallbearers were
members of the Ladies Sunday
School Class, Berryton Baptist
Church.

Annie Elem
Annie M. Elem, 87, Sum
merville Rte. 1, died Wednes
day, April 5, at the LaFayette
Health Care Center.
Mrs. Elem was born July 8,
1901, in Chattooga County,
daughter of the late Will and
Dolly Oglesby Elem. She was
a homemaker and a member of
the Church of God.
Surviving are one son, Bud
(l\ilr White, Atlanta; one sister,
rs. Mary Teems, Summer
ville; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in
the LaFayette Chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Revs.
Melvin Bridges and Ray
Teems officiating.
Interment was in
LaFayette Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were

Albert Durham. A daughter,
Margaret Bazzil, died in 1984
and a son, Bill Durham, died in
1988.
Surviving are his widow,

merville; one son, Roy Durham,
Summerville; two step
daughters, Mildred Goodman,
Dalton and Frances
Mcßurnett, Gadsden, Ala.;
two ste{‘)sons. Tommy Ellis and
Jackie Ellis, Summerville; one
sister, Lora Bell Durham,
L.aFayette; three brothers, Dan

and nephews.

at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April
12, in the Community Holiness
Church with the Revs. Paul
Edgeworth and Ray Caldwell
officiating.
Interment was in
Macedonia Cemetery.

Beulah Hankins
Beulah Parham Hankins,
93, Summerville, died Wednes
day night, April 5, in Oak View
Nursing Home.
She was born in Chattooga
County Oct. 21, 1895, daughter
of the late Walter and Rebec
ca Parham. Mrs. Hankins was
a member of South Summer
ville Baptist Church. Her hus
band, C. E. Hankins; two sons,
Carl Eugene Hankins and J. T.
Hankins; one sister, Foy Mae
Pullen; and a brother, Reuben
Parham, all died earlier.
Surviving are one son, Ed
ward Hankins, Lake City; six
grandchildren, nine great
grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, in
South Summerville Baptist
Church with the Rev. Jimmy
Bryant officiating.
Interment was in Summer
ville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Guinn Hankins, Adam
Hankins, Gene Burgess, Paul
Pullen, Greg Farr and Jim
Grant.

Bill Lewis
Milton C. "Bill"" Lewis, 76,
Summerville Rte. 5, Berryton
community, died Monday mor
ning, April 10, at his residence
following a long illness.
Mr. Lewis was born in
Cherokee County, Ala., on
April 3, 1913, son of the late
Calvin and Fannie Haygood
Lewis. He was a member and
retired deacon of West Ber
ryton Faith Temple and was
retired from Georgia Rug Mill.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Velma Rutledge Lewis;
two sons, Talmadge Lewis,
Summerville, and Luzon Lewis,
Trion; one sister, Mrs. Avis
Love, Summerville; one
brother, Calvin Lewis, Sum
merville; seven grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Atpril 12,
in tge Hill Chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Revs.
John Mann and Fletcher Toles
officiating.
Interment was in Green
Hills Memory Garden.

Smith, 84, Dean Street,
Gadsden, Ala., a former resi
dent of Chattooga County, died
at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, April
s,lin Oafl View Nursing Home.
She was born in Chattooga
County Jan. 31, 1905, daughter
of the late F. W. and Annie
Leslie Cavin. She was a
member of the White Chapel
Hill Baptist Church. Her hus
band, lgobert S. Smith, died
earlier.
Surviving are two brothers,
William Cavin, Summerville,
and Jim Ed Cavin, Menlo;
three sisters, Mrs. Eunice
Toles, Menlo, Mrs. Bonnie
Hardeman, Cloudland, and
Mrs. Corinne Kidd, Rome;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, in
the Hill Chapel of Lane Funeral
Home with the Rev. James
Wofford officiating.
Interment was in Alpine
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were

Collis Talmadge ‘‘Red”
Styles, 70, Summerville Rte. 2,
Pennville area, died Monday,
April 10, in Redmond Park
Ho?fital. Rome.
e was born in Maryville,
Tenn., on May 24, 1918, son of
the late Talmadge and Martha
Tilley Styles. Mr. Styles was a
Baptist, a retired television
repairman, a veteran of World
War 11, a member of the VFW
Post 6688, and disabled
veteran. A sister, the late Mary
Lou Driver, died previously.
Surviving are his widow,
Frances Sty%es, Summerville;
two daughters, Barbara Jean
Edwards, Lyerly, Penny
Woods, Trion; two sons,
Weyman Styles, Albertville,
Ala., and Raleigh Styles, Sum
merville; four sisters, Mae
Adair, Summerville, Virginia
Brazelle, Morolboro, Md., An
na Lowery, Trion, Emma Ruth
Davis, Canton, N.C.; two
brothers, Deforest Styles,
Trion, and Theodore Styles,
Summerville; four grand
children, one great-grandchild;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12,
in the chapel of Erwin-Petitt
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Frank Lewis and Minister
Walter E. Neal officiating.
Interment was in Green
Hills Memory Garden.

Patrol Cars
Arrive Here
Two new patrol cars for the
Chattooga County Sheriff's Of
fice were delivered Tuesday,
Commissioner Jim Parker said
Wednesday.
The vehicles were purchas
ed earlier this year by Parker
through a state contract.

The Chattooga Count
Water District Board this weeK
was still considering bids sub
mitted for a new office building
last week.
The panel met Tuesday
evening but postponed a deci
sion until workmen's compen
sation coverage by one ofp:he
firms could be determined.

both a vinyl sided and brick
sided office. They follow:
Green's Construction Co.,
Summerville, $38,600 vinyl
and $40,600 brick; Duncan and
Son Contractors, Trion,
$42,010 vinyl and $43,956
brick; and J. D. Bryant Con
struction, Trion, $34,975 vinyl
and $37,575 brick.
Former Chattooga Commis
sioner Harry Powe%l gave the
water board $40,000 to build a
new office. It has been in an
interest-bearing account since
late December.
Fire Damages
Local House
Part of a wall was burned
and smoke damage was
reported to the rest of the home
of Grady Fowler on Highway
100 as Jxe result of a Wednes
day morning blaze, according
to the Summerville Fire
Department.
Firemen were on duty at
the home from 8:06 to 8:45 a.m.
A brush fire was ex
tinguished on McGinnis Circle
in Summerville at 10:39 p.m.
Tuesday, firemen reported.
A mobile home on Dogwood
Drive was a total loss in a fire
that occurred between 2 and 3
a.m. last Friday, reports said.
A passer-by saw flames
coming out of a chimney on
East Fourth Avenue in Sum
merville about 10:12 a.m. Mon
day, firemen said. He notified
the home's owner, who then ex
tinguished the blaze with
water, reports added.
Two Injured
In Accident
Two people comfilained of
injuries in a two-vehicle acci
dent last Saturday evening on
Butler Dairy Road, according
to the Georgia State Patrol.
They were identified as
Christopher Ramsey, 6, Sum
merville Rte. 2, and Pauline
Laney, 28, Woodland Avenue,
Summerville.
Trooper Caron Pace said a
vehicle cfi'iven by Teresa Diane
Peace, 26, Summerville Rte. 2,
was involved in a collision with
a car driven by Harry Eugene
McGinnis, 36, 100 Union St.,
Summerville.
Trooper Pace said it ap
peared to her that the Peace
vehicle entered a curve and the
driver applied the brakes, caus
ing her to lose control of the
car. It then crossed the center
line and struck the McGinnis
car, the trooper said. Ms. Peace
claimed that the McGinnis car
crossed the center line, the
report said.
No Rotary Meet
The Summerville-Trion
Rotary Club will not meet next
Monday because ladies night
will be held the following F'ri
day, April 21.
